Avenue Scholars

Avenue Scholars Leading Omaha’s young people from classrooms to careers. Governing Values

Integrity: We are consistent, dependable, and honest about who we are and what we do.

The Avenue Scholars program was an idea generated in 2008 by a group of Omaha philanthropists to help students of hope and need advance through a successful post-secondary experience to a meaningful career. Their idea has become a reality with the Avenue Scholars Foundation helping over 600 students along this path. Innovation: We implement dynamic programming that facilitates the growth and devel

opment of our students and the community. Collaboration: We create a culture of mutual trust, open dialogue, and positive results. Respect: We value others and promote their success. Hope: We focus on strengths and opportunities rather than obstacles.

“Stay in a growth mindset” is the best advice for new Scholars according to Career Coach Marcus Manley.

Being willing to grow and believe in a positive future for themselves are key fundamentals for Scholars to reach maximum potential in the Avenue Scholars program, he says.

To achieve their goals, Scholars often explore many different opportunities through less-traditional pathways. It just takes an open mind, research, and communicating with your Career Coach.

Happy workiversary, Canei!

In her six years with Avenue Scholars, Canei has guided many Scholars along their individualized career journeys. For the last two years, Canei has served as a High School Career Coach at Benson High

As a Benson alum herself, Canei couldn’t pass up the opportunity to serve Scholars at her alma mater. There, she sets the standard every day for her Scholars as a reliable mentor who is always in their corner, cheering them on to win not just in their career, but in life.

In her free time, Canei loves staying active in the community, attending local events, volunteering, and involving her Scholars whenever she can.

Thank you for always going above and beyond for our Scholars, Canei! 💙

We got a look at our summer Boot Camp through our Scholars’ eyes — and in some cases their thumbs. Take a peek! 👀📸

This summer, we gave six old school disposable cameras to our Boot Camp Scholars and asked them to capture their experience, who they met, where they went, and what they learned.

The results? Rich in personality, varied in quality, and – in true summer camp form – fun all around. What pictures would you have taken?

"Hey, Mr. Curtis, can we talk about *this* for my career pathway?"

For Career Coach Antione Curtis, based at Westview High those open-door moments and conversations with Scholars are what he appreciates most about coming back to school.

Antione loves building strong relationships with new students and guiding his Scholars as they explore their career goals. With a supportive staff and a great culture at Westview, this year is going to be amazing for our Westview Scholars.

Jenni Gutierrez graduated from Omaha South High School in 2017, and she never imagined she would be back years later with Avenue Scholars!

Now in her second school year as a Career Coach, she’s excited to welcome incoming juniors, catch up with her returning seniors, and get back to guiding her Scholars as they explore their talents and meaningful future careers. We can’t wait to see all the great things Jenni and her Scholars accomplish this year! 💜

Did you spot us at the Big Dreams festival this weekend?

Hosted by Connected Roots Care Center - CRCC this event was a wonderful celebration of community. For 35 years, CRCC has been helping Omaha families plant strong roots through inclusive, tailored care where children grow, learn, and develop.

That passion is shared by Avenue Scholars as we provide youth with the guidance, education, and career pathways young people need to thrive. Thank you to CRCC for putting on this amazing event.

We had a blast seeing everybody, thank you to everyone who visited our table to say hi!
Together, we’re helping Omaha’s youth dream big and build bright futures.

Avenue Scholars Chief Operating Officer Catie Dagle joined the Dana Village Foster Youth Summit Thursday to explore how agencies and nonprofits can collaborate to support youth transitioning out of foster care.

At the summit, Dagle spoke on a panel about the importance of community partnerships and sharing resources. She told the story of a recent Scholar who moved to Dana Village with support from Lutheran Family Services while continuing career coaching through Avenue Scholars — a prime example of local organizations working together.

“That starts with us creating strong partnerships," Dagle said. “When we needed help from the partnership, we knew we could send (the Scholar) to Dana Village.”

Dedicated to guiding Omaha’s youth from the classroom to career, Avenue Scholars is creating better outcomes for all young people in our community.

Thank you to the organizers, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and Lutheran Family Services, for bringing leaders together to expand opportunities and strengthen support networks for Nebraska’s foster youth!

Scholar Dezie M. is taking her Coach’s advice to heart and staying positive!

We caught up with Dezie to talk about her journey with her Avenue Scholars High School Career Coach, Beth Leach, at West Side High.

As an incoming senior set to graduate in May 2027, Dezie is already exploring career opportunities. She’s currently gaining hands-on experience through a bank teller internship at Pinnacle Bank. She absolutely loves the role and is planning to pursue a career in banking!
