This one was so much fun. It's unlike any other print I've done. Roehm did this print when he was 9 years old and if you look very closely you will see that the "Creature" dude is made out of his last name - Van Winkle. I had so much fun working on this one. I'm adding it a few different ways so that you can see his name in there. If you turn it sideways.. there it is. Thanks so much to Tammie and Roehm.

Please take the time to read this today.
Below is a print called "Black Fire" by Mason. I have been working with his amazing mother, Nancy to bring this work of art to life. If you do anything today, please please please read her story below. Working with her and Mason is something that I will never forget for the rest of my life. Thank you Nancy and thank you Mason.
Please read:
Black Fire was created when Mason was in 5th grade. When his love of reading bloomed in 3rd grade, Mason seemed to gravitate toward books about dragons. The first series we read together, when he was really discovering the excitement of reading, was a fantasy series that had dragons in it. During 5th grade, he started a book series in which the main characters were dragon figures that came to life. It was shortly after starting those books that Black Fire was created.
Mason was an extremely active dude, so he didn't spend a whole lot of time sitting down, writing, or drawing! Because of that, our family finds great pleasure in this dragon because he gives us a chance to see Mason's creativity at work.
Black Fire boldly personifies Mason's imagination and spirit. This dragon seems to have a life of its own because of the time and thought Mas put into him. Black Fire embodies Mason's passion, power, and pride, and his eyes reflect his intelligent, compassionate, beautiful soul.
Mason died in April 2014 from cancer. He was brave until the end, reassuring us that everything would be ok. We are absolutely confident of Mason's approval of Marty's translation of Black Fire. We will be forever grateful for his hard work and creativity, and for bringing Black Fire so vividly to life!!

6 year old Hunter created a super rad Robot Rocker with a little mini mosh-pit of Red Robot groupies. He topped things off nicely with a big old electronic Lady Bug. I love the eye patch and the lightsaber arms. Well done Hunter.

7 year old Abby imagined up this hilarious Earth Creature who comes along with a couple extra Creature buddies on his back. Amazing job Abby. These guys make me laugh every time I look at them.

After a year of writing down the ridiculous things said in my house on a daily basis I finally finished up Book #1 - Age 2. So much fun that I'm already working on Book #2 - Age 3.

7 year old Sarah created this graceful flying yellow creature for me and I decided to turn it into an astronaut in deep dark space. My only hope is that it's tether is still properly attached to the space shuttle! Thanks Sarah, I had a lot of fun with this one and love how it turned out.

Recently I had the great pleasure of working on a print for Mockingbird Cupcakes. Sarah's son, Chris did this hilarious little dude and it was hanging up on their wall. I was lucky enough to get a hold of it and I did up a tough little Cupcake Creature for them. I recently went out and met the wonderful girls from Mockingbird and presented them with this and we had an amazing time. Absolutely great people out there. Go check them out!
