It is with great sadness that we share with you the passing of Central High School Eagle and Hall of Fame educator, Dan Daly.
Dan dedicated 37 years to Central High School as an English teacher and English Department Head, inspiring generations of students through his passion for language, literature, and composition. Known for his unbounded enthusiasm, creative teaching methods, and high expectations, Dan left an indelible mark on both his students and colleagues. During his 23 years as department head, he helped shape and strengthen Centralās English curriculum while providing leadership and mentorship to countless teachers.
Danās extraordinary contributions to education were recognized with numerous honors, including the Alice Buffett Outstanding Teacher Award, Central High School Teacher of the Year, and induction into the Central High School Hall of Fame in 2012. As one former student shared, Dan was āan extraordinary teacher and human being,ā and anyone fortunate enough to be his student was āforever enlightened.ā
Danās influence extended beyond Central. Following his retirement from CHS, he continued teaching British Literature at Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart, bringing his love of learning to students to nearly two more decades.
Over a span of 57 years, Dan served as a teacher, mentor, scholar, and friend. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and trusted advisor to family members across multiple generations.
Visitation will be held Tuesday at 5:00 p.m., with a wake service at 7:00 p.m., at St. Margaret Mary Church on 61st and Dodge Street. A funeral mass will be on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church.
