What we give attention to… grows.

And that includes the behaviors we don’t want.

When a child is whining, interrupting, or acting out, it’s so easy to jump in with correction, reminders, or frustration.

But here’s the shift:

Every time we give big attention to those behaviors,
we’re teaching the brain
👉 this works
👉 do this again

Not because they’re being “bad”
But because their body and brain are learning patterns.

So what do we do instead?

Notice the small wins.
Catch the effort.
Reinforce what you want to see more of.

Even if it feels tiny.

“I see you waiting.”
“You used a calm voice.”
“You kept trying.”

That’s how behavior changes.
That’s how the brain learns.

Less spotlight on the negative.
More light on what’s working.

03/23/2026

Behind every “behavior” is a nervous system asking for support.

Not attention seeking.
Not defiance.
Not “bad.”

Just a body and brain that don’t know what to do yet.

And that’s where teaching comes in.

If your child feels timid or unsure…
this is where you start 👇

🎶 STAND Strategy (Other Versions on YouTube)

When kids feel timid, their body shrinks.
And their thoughts follow.

But when they stand tall, lift their head, and use steady words, they begin to feel more secure in themselves.

We’re not trying to fix timid.
We’re helping kids feel safe enough to accept who they are.

Music helps this stick.
So kids don’t just hear the strategy… they use it.

Don’t expect regulation without education.

If kids don’t understand what’s happening in their body and brain, they can’t respond on purpose.

Regulation is a skill.
And every skill has to be taught.

Nervous System Literacy (NSL) is the ability to recognize, understand, communicate, and intentionally respond to what is happening in the body and brain.

At its core, it is about awareness of the nervous system and how it drives emotion, thinking, and behavior.

The nervous system is constantly scanning for safety or threat.
This process happens automatically, before a child ever chooses how to act.

When the system is activated, we see changes like:
• increased heart rate
• muscle tension
• faster breathing
• difficulty thinking clearly

These physiological shifts directly impact behavior.

This is why a child may:
• react quickly
• struggle to focus
• become overwhelmed
• shut down or avoid

Without understanding these body based processes, behavior is often misinterpreted as defiance or lack of effort.

Nervous System Literacy changes that.

It gives children a framework to:
• notice internal body signals
• label what is happening
• understand why it is happening
• use strategies to regulate their state

As regulation improves, access to the thinking brain increases.
This leads to better decision making, problem solving, and social interaction.

Nervous System Literacy is not about eliminating emotions.
It is about building the ability to work with the body so that emotions and behaviors can be managed effectively.

This is a foundational skill that supports learning, relationships, and overall development both in school and at home.

We teach kids to read.
We teach kids to write.

But very few kids are taught
how to calm their body.

And that changes everything.

🎶 Our Little Minds Big Feelings songs are now on YouTube.

These aren’t just songs.
They’re brain-body tools kids can actually use when feelings get big.

Because when a strategy is paired with music…
it sticks.

Go listen, save, and use them at home or in your classroom 💛

📚 Overwhelmed Owen’s BOPS Method song is now up!

When kids feel overwhelmed, their brain can start to feel cluttered and stuck. The BOPS Method gives them a simple path forward:

Breathe
Organize
Prioritize
Simplify

Instead of freezing or shutting down, kids learn how to slow their body down and tackle one step at a time.

And honestly… this one is a great reminder for adults too. When life starts to feel overwhelming, BOPS is a simple way to reset and move forward.

Music helps strategies stick in the brain, so when kids practice it through the song, the steps are easier to remember when they really need them.

Great for classrooms, counseling lessons, or practicing at home. 🎶

🎢 Silly Sammy’s Rollercoaster Breathing song is here!

This one is perfect for those moments when kids are silly, wiggly, and a little distracted. Sometimes their bodies just have a lot of energy and need help settling back down.

Rollercoaster Breathing turns a calming strategy into something fun and memorable. Kids ride the “rollercoaster” with their breath — up, down, and back to steady — helping their body shift from silly and distracted to calm and focused.

Music helps strategies stick. When kids sing it and practice it, their brain remembers the tool when they actually need it.

Great for classrooms, counseling lessons, brain breaks, or practicing at home. 🎶

Timid Tori’s “I Am, I Can, I Will” song is now up! 🎶

This one is all about positive self-talk and helping kids build that inner voice that says, “I can do this.”

The song practices the phrases I am. I can. I will. so kids start to replace doubt with encouraging thoughts. It’s especially helpful for kiddos who need a little boost in confidence before trying something new.

And fair warning… it’s catchy. I find myself singing it all the time! 😄

Music is such a powerful way for kids to remember strategies. When they practice the words through a song, those positive messages stick in their brain and are easier to pull out when they need them.

Great for classrooms, counseling lessons, or practicing at home.
