A three period lesson is a main foundation of Montessori. This is used to present new information to the child in three basic steps.
Step one— Let’s say you are introducing the three primary colors to your child. Of course you will always want to do this naturally or you have a good opportunity, but it is also important to set aside specific time to introduce new information.
You will want collect some type of item to introduce the topic. If it’s colors find something that they can hold. Same if it’s an animal you can use little figurines, or at the very least you can print out some pictures of the item if you don’t have anything to represent it.
Once you have these items to represent the words out you can bring by presenting one item and repeating the name of the item. Example— if they are being presented with the color yellow continue to repeat “yellow.” This is when you would point to the object as well. You can allow them to get familiar with the item by holding or touching it and doesn’t need to be anything crazy formal.
Step Two- once you feel like your child understands what you are trying to teach you can begin the recognize phase. This is where suggests playing different games with your child while trying to help them recognize it. So you can ask them “point to the color yellow” “can you hide the yellow one?” “Show me the yellow one” “I spy the color yellow...” etc. you can have fun with this and as creative as you want. If you find that they are really not grasping the concept then you will want to go back to step one to repeat teaching the name of the subject.
Step three— this is a step you will want to save for children who can speak. This step is having them recall back to you what is being learned. So you can ask “what is this?” In hopes that they would then say “yellow!” If you find that they are not grasping that concept then you will want to repeat and revisit the other two steps!
Let us know if you have any questions! We have found lots of free printables over the years that we would love to share if you would like those we will post them in the stories!

In Montessori this is the main method used to teach a child a new name, concept or lesson.
This is done in three steps:
1. Identify
2. Recognize
3. Recall
Identify: This is where you are wanting to name and show. Example “Yellow” or “Lava”. This can be whatever it is that your child is interested in or something specific you are trying to teach. Use as little words as possible sticking to only the new word they are trying to learn.
Recognition: Using the new words they are learning create different ways for them to show you they recognize the word. This can be done through different activities like asking them to “show you” (show me the color yellow) and then they can point and show you what you are asking. If you have actual items, you can ask them to pass you the proper one or have them hide it. Have fun with it! If you observe that they haven’t grasped this yet, instead of just saying “no that’s wrong” you can just remember to revisit identifying the object and go back to the first step.
Recall: This step is specifically used if they can speak. You would then ask the question “what is this?” And have them recall what it is. If they don’t seem to have grasped it, you will want to return to the other previous steps.
This week we are diving deeper into this concept! So if it doesn’t make sense yet, stick around to learn more!

Some of our favorite kitchen utensils for our kids!
We love these little pitchers for our girls little hands. They are able to use these while cooking or to fill their own glass with water, milk or whatever we are drinking. They love pouring their own cereal and milk into their bowls with these!
Knives! Each of these have different purposes but we use them to help them scaffold (build) different skills and techniques.
Egg slicers might seem funny...BUT our girls loooove it! The can make a hard boiled egg start to finish, the are soo good at attention to detail on getting each shell off...not to mention getting to slice it in the slicer to complete it!
Of course cookie cutters are a great crowd pleaser, but we find it helps prepare them for other things like apple slicers and the garlic press.
Items like can openers are really great for helping their little hands learn how to turn things, pizza cutters are just straight up fun! Peelers can be tricky at first but a great skill to learn when they are ready for it!
Of course there are the classics like measuring cups, spoons, spatulas and whisks!
We also love using basters and brushes to help get them in on the action!
Sieves or strainers can also be great for many different age and skill ranges!
Another one not pictured that we love is our mortar and pestle for our girls to grind things. As well as our rolling pins!
We have tons more and would love to hear what kitchen items you and your kids love to use together!!

If you have typed “Montessori” into pinterest, you might have seen this piece of furniture before.
This is called a learning tower, and there are many different variations of it, this contraption is essentially there to help a child safely reach counter height.
This weeks focus is on how you can set up your kitchen for success. We will be sharing more content on what we do in our kitchen to safely and sanely allow our children to navigate, assist and eventually learn to become independent in the kitchen.
Comment below what questions you have about your kitchen set up so that we can answer those for you!

Motherhood is full of tears.
Tears of longing. The journey to become a mother is not an easy one for a lot of us. It can push us to our very core and the depth of the tears run oh so deep.
Tears of frustration. Frustrated at having your name called. Every. Minute.
Tears of worry. That pit in your stomach or seeing your child in pain or sick and you have no way to help take that pain away. Worried that you did something wrong.
Tears of joy. Seeing your child accomplish something you know is the biggest mountain for them and they finally did it.
Tears from your toddler. From your newborn. From your child. From your teenager.
Tears of resentment. Sometimes you just want to have more time to yourself and you feel like everyone else gets all the time in the world to do what they want.
Tears because you’re drowning. Drowning from everything motherhood requires you to do.
Tears of anxiety. Because sending them off in the world can be daunting. So. So. Daunting.
Tears of feeling angry. Angry yourself because you aren’t the mom you wanted to be today or last week or the week before that....
Tears of feeling complete. Because the second they took that breathe you knew they were yours.
Tears of love. Because some where along this journey you didn’t think your heart could get any bigger, any more full, stretched, pushed, torn, ripped, or quadrupled in size. But here we are 😅
No matter what tears you find streaming down your face today, yesterday or tomorrow...Remember that motherhood is the greatest work you will ever do. This is truly what is changing the world. This is meant to be hard. It’s meant to shape you into the best version of yourself and sometimes that means that there are tears. Lots and lots of them. Allow the tears to heal you. Allow them to bring more love and joy in 💕 you are doing incredible 💕

I know that this concept can seem daunting....I am someone who struggles just rotating my dirty clothes to become clean clothes 🤦🏻♀️...
It really is something that you can start small with. It can be one area a couple toys and something that you can eventually tackle throughout your whole home. Don’t feel like you need to bite off more than you can chew! Just start small and work your way forward!

This is something that you will here within the Montessori world a lot. If you are in a formal setting you will hear the words “material” or “work” instead of using the word toys. We are going to refer to the word toys out of simplicity for those new to Montessori.
In a classroom setting you will see shelves that neatly display work for the children. In a home setting we can also set up shelves with smaller amounts of toys or materials for them to play with.
••As we display and rotate out these items we can prevent massive tidal waves of toys at bay by storing toys they aren’t regularly using or playing with away. This creates a minimal space which is more pleasing to the child and adult.
••We can spend less money on buying new things, as when we rotate toys or material that have been in storage it feels like new to the child and they will want to play with it again.
••Reduces over stimulation as they don’t have hundreds of toys to choose from at once, but a smaller selection.
This week we will be providing all sorts of tips, tricks and hacks for toy rotation within your own home so stay tuned and ask any questions you have!!
We are also so excited to announce that we have making these adorable graphics coming your way! So stay tuned to see the amazing creations she has made like this one!!
