We would like to thank HexArmor for fully outfitting the entire Midwest Misfits Technical Rescue and Training cadre with mission-specific hand and eye protection. This ensures our instructors have the right PPE for every environment they operate in. From the cut, puncture, and impact protection of the 4012 extrication gloves, to the heat-resistant structural performance of the 8180 structural firefighting gloves, the durable versatility of the 4061 utility/work gloves, and the dependable eye protection of the VS250 safety glasses, this partnership equips Midwest Misfits with industry-leading gear built for real-world abuse. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to performance, protection, and delivering the highest standard of technical rescue training.

Most fall protection programs focus heavily on regulations, equipment, and system familiarization but very few actually place students in suspended environments where they can experience the physical and psychological realities of a fall arrest event. That’s where Midwest Misfits Technical Rescue & Training stands apart. This hands-on program designed for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT) moved beyond classroom discussion, giving participants the opportunity to be suspended in their harnesses, understand the immediate effects of suspension, and practice realistic self-rescue techniques. Because when a real fall happens, familiarity with equipment isn’t enough, experience matters.
Midwest Misfits Technical Rescue & Training works directly with agencies to develop practical in-house fall protection and rescue programs built around their specific hazards, equipment, and operational environments. During a suspension emergency, time is critical. Waiting for an outside fire department response can mean valuable minutes lost while a worker remains suspended and exposed to the life-threatening effects of suspension trauma. Our approach focuses on equipping teams with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to initiate immediate self-rescue or coworker rescue, because in a real emergency, the fastest rescue is often the one performed by the people already on scene.

We would like to introduce two new instructors to the Midwest Misfits Technical Rescue and Training Cadre starting with Brian Wojtasek.
Brian is a FEMA US&R (NE-TF1) Technical Rescue and Structural Collapse Instructor with nearly 20 years of fire service experience operating in high-risk, complex environments. As a Rescue Specialist and Logistics Manager, he brings real-world USAR deployment experience into every class, bridging the gap between theory and performance under pressure.
Serving as Training Lead for Lincoln Fire & Rescue, Brian develops and delivers scenario-driven training. Brian has been the Lincoln Fire and Training Lead Instructor since 2020 where he has developed curriculum for Thermal Imaging Cameras and Technical Rescue program. Brian’s approach is geared toward the Misfit mindset as he says his focus is simple; build training that actually translates to the fireground. Everything I teach is based on realistic conditions, high-stress decision-making, and preparing firefighters to perform when it matters.
Welcome to the team, Brian!
