Department of Neurological Sciences – Warren Neuroscience Lab Warren.
The Warren Neuroscience Lab (WNL) is a research lab in the Department of Neurological Sciences at UNMC led by Dr. David E. We study memory, development, aging, Alzheimer’s disease, and brain networks by combining neuropsychological and neuroimaging methods. On this page, you can find up-to-date information about our ongoing research, and you can also learn about studies that are actively recruitin

Last week, the WNL had the chance to visit the iEXCEL Center here at UNMC! Huge thanks to the iEXCEL team for hosting us and showing us around. We got to check out some really cool tech and tools to help us visualize the brain. It was a fantastic experience where we not only had fun but also learned a ton. Definitely grateful to have a resource like this right here on our campus!

Today is WorldBrainDay! Let’s raise awareness about brain health, neurological/neurodegenerative disorders, and the power of neuroscience to change lives. Remember to take care of your brain, it’s the only one you’ve got!

Had the honor of hosting students at the WNL as part of the Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) at UNMC! We loved sharing our passion for neuroscience and demonstrating one of our coolest research tools: the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) machine. Check out some photos of our Clinical Coordinator, Anna, rocking the TMS head tracker. This device helps inform the machine of her head’s position so we can precisely map specific areas of the brain.

Meet another one of our stellar summer students!
Hi, my name is Jack and I’m from Lincoln, Nebraska. I just finished my 1st year of medical school here at UNMC and have been working in the lab this summer as part of the MSSRP program. I have enjoyed learning how to trace hippocampal subfields, how to operate TMS, and much more. It has also been great getting to know the lab with the help of Fun Lunches and Coneflower. When I’m not in the lab I enjoy playing sports, watching movies, and reading.

Meet Patricia! She is one of our incredible summer students!
Hello! I'm from Blair, NE. I received a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a MS in Computer Science from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. This past year, I completed my first year of medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. This summer I'm participating in the MSSRP program and through this program I get to do research with the WNL. Since starting at the WNL, I've learned how to administer TMS and trace the subfields of the hippocampus. In the future I hope to either become a Neurologist or an Otolaryngologist. Outside of the lab I love spending time with my dog, Mr. Biscuits, going on hikes, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Meet one of our amazing summer students who is participating in the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SUPR)!
Hello! My name is Akanksha, I am from Houston, Texas and am a sophomore at the University of Texas at Austin. Currently, I'm majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Science Communications and I hope to pursue an MD/PhD program after college! Here at WNL, I've had an incredible time tracing hippocampi, looking at the PRANK data, and learning how to administer different neuropsychological tests. In my free time, I enjoy kayaking, going on hikes, and eating good food. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this lab for the summer and I can't wait to see how my project develops.
