Montessori Co-op School

Montessori Co-op School We are an accredited Montessori school for ages 18-months through 6th grade. Our co-op model keeps costs low and ensures that parents' voices are heard.

The Montessori Co-op School is a 501c3 non-profit school located in Omaha, NE founded in 1984. We offer a one-of-a-kind educational opportunity for children ages 18 months through the 6th grade. We aim to create a community of children, teachers and parents working together to promote exceptional academics, creativity, compassion, and stewardship. We are more than a school. We are a community buil

t by and dependent on active partnerships between parents and teachers. Our Mission is driven by three Core Values:

Excellence in Academics - The Montessori philosophy, a team of dedicated educators, a prepared environment, and small class sizes ensure young children receive the learning opportunities, individualized guidance and support they need to thrive. Focus on Self-Discovery - Self-directed learning fosters independence, creativity, and self-reliance in our students. Investment in Each Other - We honor diversity and look beyond academics to our responsibilities to our community, to the environment, and to each other as unique individuals.

Join us on a three-year journey of curiosity, connection, and practice. 🔵✏️

In our Primary classrooms, newly transitioning children grow alongside seasoned kindergarteners. 🌱As guides, we observe, support, and build meaningful bonds as we journey alongside them for three years.

…”The prepared environment also includes the prepared teacher, or guide; our preparation of self guides the preparation of the physical environment.” - Ms. Becky, Primary Teacher

Independence cannot happen overnight. True freedom and independence is created starting with one small task at time.

As Ms. Jordan puts it, helping students function independently, in daily life and in learning, is one of our core goals. ✨

No screen opt-out needed, because there’s nothing to opt out of.

In our school, Elementary children learn through hands-on Montessori materials, creating their own worlds in wild spaces, and collaborating in their community. 💙📚🌱

Children crave freedom and independence. How do we allow this for a 1-3 year old in a healthy and safe way? 🩵

Support children and their independence through clear language and limits, then follow that with freedom within those limits. 🌞

The toddler environment (18mo-3 years old) allows children to explore and practice freely. Formal lessons on materials may be given to small groups or practiced nearby for younger children, which allows for the child to see expectations of how to work with materials. Once these expectations are set, we observe the magic of a toddler Montessori environment. 📝✨

Today would be Kelsey’s 40th Birthday. While our co-op community continues to grieve her loss, we know that she is more with us than ever, continuing her work of loving us all and taking care of us. And she would want us to celebrate with her. So... that’s what we are doing today. Please see the link in our bio.

Practical Life: 18 months-3 years old 🪴

Practical life in a Montessori environment of any age group can include lessons on grace and courtesy, care of self and others, and care of the environment. 🧹

In the toddler environment this will look like caring for classroom plants (watering and dusting), hand washing, bread slicing, sweeping, scrubbing (vegetables, objects, fingernails), polishing, saying please and thank you, greeting others, how to turn the pages of a book, and so much more! 📖 🧽🥒

Visit mcsomaha.org if you are interested in learning more about our community, touring, or applying. We can’t wait to meet you! ☀️
