Steal my somatic flow ✨
Save this one for a day when you need a few minutes to come back into your body.
1️⃣ Adjust pants as needed 😂
Because obviously this is step one.
2️⃣ Get grounded
Rub your hands together, connect with your legs, feel the floor underneath you and take a moment to actually arrive.
3️⃣ Breathe. Always breathe.
Take 3 slow, intentional breaths. Inhale, arms rise. Exhale, hands come back to heart.
4️⃣ Open the side body
Flow gently from side to side, creating length through the ribs and making a little more space to breathe.
5️⃣ Awaken the spine + open the chest
Move through a seated cat/cow, letting the spine flex and extend. We spend SO much of our lives rounded forward; give your chest, shoulders and heart space to open in the opposite direction.
6️⃣ Bounce + find your rhythm
Slow, medium or fast; there’s no “right” rhythm. Gentle bouncing, shaking and rhythmic movement can be a beautiful way to connect with your body and support nervous-system regulation.
7️⃣ Nurture + soothe
Gently sweep alternating hands down your arms. This kind of slow, nurturing touch can feel especially grounding when you’re feeling activated or overstimulated.
8️⃣ Release the neck + shoulders
Sit tall, soften the shoulders and let your head and neck move in ways that feel good to YOU. No need to force anything. (And skip full neck circles if you have a neck injury or they don’t feel good in your body.)
😘 Love you, bye.
And if you’re thinking, “THIS is the kind of yoga I want to learn more about…” this is exactly the kind of exploration we bring into our 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training.
Somatic awareness is woven throughout our training alongside yoga philosophy, anatomy, sequencing, breathwork, accessible movement, nervous-system awareness, teaching skills and so much more.
We begin October 3rd at Athena Fitness & Wellness in Olympia.
