Remembering Katrina Groen
Former NTEA member and North Thurston High School Assistant Principal Katrina Groen passed away on December 20 after battling colon cancer.
Katrina joined North Thurston Public Schools in 2013, and touched the lives of many staff, students, and community members during her years in the district. She taught at both Woodland Elementary School and Timberline High School and worked as an instructional specialist, including as part of the MTSS reading study, before being named assistant principal at North Thurston High School. She leaves her husband Chris and their beloved sons, Joseph and Jeremiah.
Katrina's wish was any memorial donations be made to All Kids Win, the local non-profit organization that provides weekend food bags to students throughout Thurston County.
Katrinaβs Celebration of Life

To our member-veterans and our members who have veterans in their families...
A couple weeks ago, NTPS School Board candidate for position 2 Tim Bullus, informed me (Ray Nelson) that he has been accepted into the police academy in Chehalis. This would mean he would likely miss many school board meetings from December through April. Tim cannot remove his name from the November ballot, and he told me that he "recommended putting all endorsements behind Jeremy [Ryan]."
We cannot undo the endorsements made by the NT Labor Council and WEA-PAC, but given the information from Tim himself, I think it prudent that we get the word out to members and the community that Jeremy Ryan may be the better candidate at this point.
Ballots drop next week, I hear.
