Paraprofessional (Pierce/Kitsap Counties)

Family Preservation Services of Washington, Inc. is an agency that provides services to families at risk of losing their children through neglect, abuse and conflict. The agency's mission is to keep families together by helping the family make changes that increase safety for children. These services are currently offered in Pierce, Kitsap, Thurston, and selected other Counties.

Paraprofessional Staff

Qualifications

Must be over 21 years of age.

Have a legal driver's license and proof of necessary insurances.

1. An Associate's Degree or greater in Social Work, Psychology, or social or behavioral science or closely allied field;

2. A Certificate in Human Servies, Social Work, Psychology, or social or behavioral services or closely allied area with at least:

One (1) year direct experience providing child welfare services to families: OR

Two (2) years' experience delivering other types of services to children and families.

3. Enrolled in college or university pursuing a degree in Social Work, Psychology, or social or behavioral science or closely allied field and engaged in a work study, practicum, or other college or university hands on learning supported education.

Selected candidates provide services to families involved with the Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS) that are at risk of their children being placed in foster care due to neglect, abuse and conflict in the home. Paraprofessionals face a wide range of issues to include but not limited to poverty, substance abuse issues, parenting issues, developmental issues, and housing issues.

Paraprofessionals assist a counselor in providing in home counseling to families for up to three months, depending on the service being provided to that particular family. Duties may be finding housing for a family, finding concrete items or support to a family, connecting the family to services in the community and other case management type services requested by the counselor working with the family. All paraprofessionals are sub-contractors with the agency and will sign a contract (to be provided at the time of hiring) specifying the terms of the relationship between the paraprofessional and the agency.
