This is the final post from the front: after nearly a year of homelessness, Phoenix will be moving in to an apartment of her own on May 1st. She’s grateful for everyone who’s been there for her on this journey. Thanks for listening!
Phoenixsong Stellamaris, 71, never imagined she would be living in her car. But due to some bad luck, that's how she's been surviving in the Pacific Northwest since June 1, 2023.

It won't be for much longer, but Phoenix is still living in her car while she waits for her apartment to become available. In this episode she talks about one of the most dehumanizing indignities that's part of the homeless experience in this cruel capitalist society.
Dehumanizing indignities
The cruelty of capitalism is enraging and disgusting. Public restrooms are almost non-existant, so when nature calls, many homeless people have no choice but...

The end of her ordeal is finally in sight, but for now Phoenix is still living in her car. This episode talks about a recent incidence of casual cruelty which Phoenix found breathtaking. Would you have acted differently than these “good Christian women” at the Senior Center?
These short recordings are Phoenix’s way of documenting and sharing her homeless experience. Episodes are published once a week, sequentially, not as they happen. By the time any recording is published, any events mentioned will have already happened, but the emotional content is timeless.

Just before she was about to leave the hotel to go back to sleeping in her car, Phoenix's car was broken into again, and this time they broke a window, ripped out ashtrays and really trashed it. Repairs will be costly and take some time. The most demoralizing thing about Phoenix's homeless experience is her feeling that she's become invisible to people she thought cared, and she's never felt more alone in all her life.

Phoenix recorded this as her brief hotel stay was coming to an end in February, after all the plans that were giving her hope for building a new life came crashing down. With little tolerance left for living in her car, she speaks painful truth about the struggle to not let fear and self-loathing pull her under.

Phoenix’s car was broken into, most likely by other homeless people. On one hand, she’s angry, but on the other hand, she understands how people can be so desperate. Update: the hiking boots were later found.

It's shameful that in one of the wealthiest countries on the planet, we’re so callous that we don’t care about people who are suffering, and abandon them to die on the streets. Dogs get more consideration than these people!
