MY BODY MONDAY

Your body knew before your mind caught up.

It knew when something felt wrong, even when everyone around you said it was fine.

It knew when to tense, when to pull back, when to go quiet.

It knew when a ā€œyesā€ was actually a ā€œnoā€ you didn’t feel safe saying out loud.

We’re taught to override that. To second-guess it. To ask everyone else what they think before we ask our own body what it already told us.

But your body has never stopped talking to you.

The tightness in your chest. The pit in your stomach. The way your shoulders creep up toward your ears.

That’s not random. That’s information.

This week, try this: before you say yes to something, pause for three seconds and notice what your body does. Does it soften? Or does it brace?

Your body already knows. The work is just learning to listen again.

That’s what My Body My Power has always been about, not learning something new, but remembering something you already have.

Last week I started talking about the sexual violence and exploitation that touches nearly every woman I know.

Today I want to name something else: this isn’t confined to one political party, one industry, or one kind of man.

E. Jean Carroll took her case all the way through the courts, and won. Not once, but twice. A jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation. Another jury awarded her $83.3 million for continuing to defame her afterward. This past July, after years of appeals, she was finally paid. That’s what it takes for one woman to get justice against a powerful man: years, multiple trials, and a small fortune in legal fees most survivors will never have access to.

And it’s not just politics. It’s the wellness world too. Spiritual teachers, gurus, ā€œhealersā€, people who build entire platforms on trust, on claiming to hold space for people’s growth and safety. Recent document releases have surfaced serious allegations against public figures in that space as well. The betrayal cuts even deeper there, because these are the people we’re told to trust with our most vulnerable, most spiritual selves.

Powerful men protecting powerful men. It doesn’t matter what robe they’re wearing, a suit or a mala necklace, the pattern is the same.

The truth doesn’t stay buried forever. 🌘

Trigger Warning āš”ļø

We are so far past due for the truth.

Every year, at least 51,100 women are killed by gender-based violence, over half of them by partners or family. Nearly a third of all women alive right now have experienced physical or sexual violence. These aren’t abstract numbers. These are our mothers, our daughters, our friends, ourselves.

Survivors have been telling us for years. Documents exist. Names exist. And still, so much stays buried, protected by power, money, and a culture that would rather look away than confront what powerful men have done to women and children.

This is why I’m saying it plainly: release the Epstein files. Let survivors be believed instead of silenced. Stop protecting powerful men at the expense of the people they’ve harmed. We deserve the truth, not another excuse for why we can’t have it.

I’ve worked in anti-trafficking since 2009. I don’t need to know the exact number today to know it’s still too high.

I’m not staying quiet anymore, and I’m not raising girls to stay quiet either.

Eclipse this energy off the planet. Bring it into the light. šŸŒ’ā†’ā˜€ļø

Trigger Warning šŸ¤

I’ve been doing this work long enough to have heard things I’ll never be able to unhear.

A friend who was 16 when her own father told her she should work at Ho***rs. A friend whose ass was grabbed by a man she trusted, and who didn’t say a word about it for almost twenty years. Women I know who worked as bikini baristas and still carry shame that was never theirs to carry. Women who were r***d and have never told a single person. Women who dissociate, even in their most intimate moments, because their nervous systems learned a long time ago that leaving their body was safer than staying in it.

Girls, right now, today, silencing themselves because speaking up feels more dangerous than staying quiet.

Sit with this number: forced sexual exploitation generates $172.6 BILLION a year globally. Not thousands. Not millions. Billions. Annually. That number should shake you awake. It shakes me awake every day.

This is why I still run My Body My Power, for tweens, for teens, for grown women, for grandmothers.

Healing this takes all of us, at every age. We cannot do it in isolation.

I’ve been silent about this for a long time. Not because I didn’t see it. Because I was busy doing something about it.

Since 2004, I’ve worked with girls before the world teaches them to shrink. In the early 2000s I worked at a high school and watched boys smack girls on their butts, in the hallway, call them names, and the girls didn’t even defend themselves. That broke something open in me. Somewhere along the way, they’d already learned that silence was safer than a voice.

Here’s what we’re up against: nearly 1 in 3 women worldwide, 840 million of us, have experienced physical or sexual violence in our lifetime. That number has barely moved in over two decades. Barely moved. While we’ve been told to just be more careful, dress differently, smile less, walk faster.

This eclipse season, I’m done being quiet about the bigger picture. Sexual violence. Trafficking. A culture that treats women’s bodies as available, as jokes, as property. It’s old, it’s everywhere, and it needs to end.

Starting today, for the next four days, I’m speaking on it.

This is day one. šŸŒ‘šŸ”„
