Olney Classical is a music school in Olney, MD offering individual and group violin, piano, voice, cello, and guitar instruction. Our teachers are professionally trained and experienced music educators who actively tailor instruction to the interests and goals of each student. Our students hail from a wide range of backgrounds and represent every skill level from beginner to advanced. They range in age from small children to adults who wish to further a prior love of music, or even start fresh! We encourage all students to participate in our regular recitals, as well as other performance opportunities and events that surface from time to time. While we love classical music, we select repertoire according to the interests of each student, and have been known to feature classical, pop, jazz, contemporary, and rock in a single recital. Yes, rock on a violin is possible. We've tried. Studying music is more than just learning an art. The experience gained from performing in a recital can translate into improved confidence speaking and presenting in front of groups. Many of our students attend our school with this particular goal in mind. Music theory, the study of music's fundamental science and organization, has many analogues to basic math. Our students are sometimes distressed to learn that they have accidentally completed math problems during lessons. Finally, music has been a basis of human communication and expression from time immemorial, and no study of music is complete without a look at the adjoining history of the period in which it was composed. Our students can expect to learn more than just notes. Above all, we are musicians and teachers who want nothing more than to share our love of music and help each student reach their personal goals.
