Thanks to volunteer, Nick DePalermo, for coming up with the idea to sell pies at two of our high school football games. We were able to sell enough pies to raise $150 more than the amount needed to cover the tuition for one child to attend missionary school in Hyderabad. Thanks, also, to Wendell Maynard of Maynards Farm Market , for supplying the pies and donating $5 for each pile sold.

Inspired by Harlem's Children Zone, two non-profile groups received a $500,000 grant in hopes of replicating the exact program for children in Los Angeles. There may be iPad apps and e-books for students, but they are still clinging to paper textbooks! You can never get rid of the traditional way of learning! Not only is cheaper than its digital counterparts, but students all over the US prefer books over technology any day.

Though the world of print is receding before a tide of digital offerings, college students weaned on technology appear to be holding fast to traditional textbooks, but at a price.
