Remembering 9/11.2001

Twenty-five years later, we still remember. Swipe through to see the photos, and read the captions for the story of how that day moved our church.

“The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart.” Psalm 34:18

1. Ground Zero first responders courageously search through the rubble in the aftermath of September 11.

2. Pastor Lloyd stands near Ground Zero, ministering to many affected by the attacks.

1. A chaplain looks on, saluting the heroes who lost their lives on September 11.

2. Firefighters stand together at Ground Zero, honoring their fallen brothers and sisters.

1. A memorial wall bears the faces and names of those lost and missing after the September 11 attacks.

2. A message of hope is displayed in Union Square as many gather in the days following 9/11.

3. Worship rises from Union Square as people gather to seek comfort, hope, and healing.

1. Pastor Lloyd shares a message of hope at a 9/11 memorial service at the PNC Arts Center.

2. Many in the Calvary Chapel Old Bridge family lost friends and loved ones on September 11, drawing the church together for prayer, remembrance, comfort and healing.

I’ve been thinking lately about how many opportunities there really are for us to show up for one another.

The Bridge Women’s Center has a need for Spanish-speaking sidewalk counselors. Our Café and Thrift Store are looking for servants. Vacation Bible School is coming up, and there’s a place for those ages 13–17 in Pipeline as well as for adults.

But this isn’t about filling positions—it’s about people. It’s about how God has uniquely wired you, what you’re good at, and what He has put on your heart.

I think of one member who faithfully brings mulch every year. No one asks—he just does it. Our Trail Life boys come out and mulch the grounds, paint, clean—because they see a need and step in.

That’s the body of Christ functioning the way it was meant to. Not out of pressure, but out of willingness. Not out of obligation, but out of love.

And when each part does its share, the whole body is strengthened.
