Today the artists from Ms. Robert's and Ms. Stith's class created a collaborative project. First the fifth grade artists created various coloring book pages. Then the first grade artists did their very best bring those drawings to like. A.B. said this about his work, "It looks pretty cool in my opinion." Then N.M. added, "The jelly fish and the whole coloring page is not done yet, but we are trying our best." N.M said, "It looks pretty."

Wayne Thiebaud was an American Pop artist who made a lot of pictures involving food. The fourth grade artists looked at his many paintings of donuts for inspiration for their oversized donut sculptures.

Exploring new ways to create is always a fun challenge for our artists. Recently the Kindergarten artists took up the challenge of creating with masking tape. Tearing, turning and layering it to make their artwork.

The first grade artists have been learning about Brazilian artist Romero Britto. He is a Pop Artist who has made a lot of different things, but he has created a lot of animals. The first grade artists used markers to color and detail their animals. E. R. says, "It's a rainbow one."

Last week the Kindergarten artists started working on a watercolor resist. They used oil pastel to draw, trace and color their snowpeople. Today the artists from Mrs. Fogarty's class painted their resists, but with a chilly twist.

One thing students in the art room get to experience is making puppets. Because it is one of my favorite things to create. This year the first graders learned about Swiss artist Paul Klee, and how he made puppets for his son using recycled parts. The artists created their own finger puppets and used upcycled parts for decorating.

Last week the artists in second grade learned about six different watercolor techniques, yes scumbling is one of them. With their paintings dry they took a look at gyotaku. Which is a Japanese printing technique for recording fish.

No actual fish were used, only because finding a whole fish is a little difficult.

The artists in first grade learned about the seven elements of art. Line, Shape, Color, Form, Texture, Space and Value. During the year, and beyond, they'll use those elements to create. Last week they learned more about texture. They collected Actual Texture, and created Visual Texture. Today the artists from Ms. Kinner's class used them both to create, notice how they used their different textures.

The second graders are working on a project and they could use thick Styrofoam for their sculpture bases. If you happen to have some please consider donating it to the art room.

The thick blue or pink insulation will work, as will regular Styrofoam as long as it's 3/4".
