A huge horseshoe-shaped coronal hole is now facing Earth.

This opening in the Sun’s atmosphere is releasing high-speed solar wind, and that stream is already headed our way. When energy like this arrives, Earth can respond within 24–48 hours — and it affects us all, from geomagnetic activity to auroras and subtle atmospheric changes.

Worth watching.

A full-halo coronal mass ejection (CME), associated with an M8.1 flare from Region 4299 at 20:39 UTC on 06 December, is expected to impact Earth early to midday on 09 December, potentially causing periods of G3 (Strong) geomagnetic storming.

“While the connection between geomagnetic activity and human health is still an area of ongoing research, some studies suggest that the body's circadian rhythms can be influenced by geomagnetic fluctuations, potentially explaining some of the reported symptoms. With these considerations in mind, it's important for weather-sensitive individuals to be aware of increased geomagnetic activity and to observe any changes in their well-being during such times.”

Once storm levels reach G3, intermittent satellite navigation and low-frequency radio navigation problems may occur, and HF radio may be intermittent, NOAA says. Voltage corrections may be needed on power systems, and false alarms may be triggered on some protection devices.
