These are the highlights from our summer STEAM Learning Journey with Langston, where youth explored the connections between agriculture, STEM, and critical thinking through anthropology. 🌱🔬
Students learned by doing - using hydroponic kits to explore innovation, problem-solving, and the relationship between science, communities, and the world around us. Through steAm Learning Journeys we aim to bring hands-on learning experience to kids all acrosss rural Oklahoma.
Thank you to Langston University for their support!

🎙️ Listen to our new podcast episode about the importance of libraries with Dr. Larry White!
What if your local library isn’t just a quiet place for books, but a living cultural lab? In this episode, hosts Suzette Vontell Chang and Dr. Robin Miles sit down with Dr. Larry White — former CEO of the Metropolitan Library System in Oklahoma City, storyteller, and veteran library leader — to explore how public libraries preserve identity, build trust, and help communities adapt. From serving Afghan refugees with sewing machines to redesigning library spaces for Vietnamese neighbors, Dr. White reveals how observation, storytelling, and cultural anthropology are transforming libraries into dynamic third places. Plus: why a library card might be the most powerful tool you’re not using.
Dr. Larry Nash White is an executive leader, educator, author, and strategic thinker with more than 30 years of experience in organizational leadership, higher education, public service, and library administration. As Chief Executive Officer of the Metropolitan Library System in Oklahoma City, White led an organization of more than 500 employees, a $60 million budget, and 20 service locations. White holds a Ph.D. and M.S.L.S. from Florida State University and has served on the faculties of the University at Buffalo and East Carolina University.

Meet the speaker for Boley Crowns Tea - Brooke Bassett! 🩵
Brooke will discuss Boley’s origin and meaning, and how Boley, along with all Oklahoma Black towns, was positioned as the “Promise Land.” Attendees are invited to explore and discuss what the “Promise Land” means in the 21st century to Boley residents.
Brooke Bassett is a political and advocacy operations marketing professional and leadership graduate candidate at the University of Oklahoma. By day, she helps launch and manage political and advocacy campaigns. By night, she studies organizational behavior, leadership, and the people side of performance.
After years of working across operations within the marketing space, Brooke became increasingly interested in the connection between workplace culture, leadership behavior, and the everyday experience of individual contributors. Her work examines organizational intentionality, psychological safety, and the gap between popular workplace culture practices and how they are actually experienced by Black women.
Brooke always wears the hat of a military spouse, adoptive mom, and autism advocate — experiences that have deeply shaped her approach to leadership and building environments where people feel supported, understood, and empowered.
