Welcome back to the 2026–2027 school year! We are excited to welcome our returning and new Rocket families. This year's theme, MISSION: EXCELLENCE, reminds us to give our best every day through hard work, kindness, responsibility, and perseverance. Together, our staff, students, and families will make this a year of growth, achievement, and success.
Please review the important information below as you prepare for a great start to the school year.

First Day of School: Tuesday, August 11
School Hours: 8:50 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Student Reminders:
Clear backpacks only.
Students may bring empty, reusable, sealed water bottles, or plastic refillable water bottles. No metal bottles. All other beverages must be in original containers and sealed until lunch time. Only one beverage per child per day.
No family sized snacks, etc. Food and bevarage items can only be brought for personal consumption. Students can not bring food or drink for anyone but themselves for multiple safety reasons.

If your child needs FREE vaccinations for the upcoming school year, the Caring Van will be in our district several days in the next two weeks. Consent forms are required: English and in Spanish.
Please note that Monday will be at the Capitol Hill Library, NOT Westwood.

𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸-𝘁𝗼-𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲!

Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, OKCPS will make a small adjustment to the school day to comply with a new Oklahoma law.

Under Senate Bill 1481, all Kindergarten through 5th grade students must receive at least 40 minutes of supervised, unstructured recess each day—double the previous requirement. The law also prohibits recess from being withheld as a form of discipline.

To meet this new requirement while protecting valuable classroom learning time, OKCPS has made a slight adjustment to the school day for the upcoming school year.

High Schools: 7:35 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
Classen SAS High School at Northeast: 8:10 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.
Pre-K Centers: 8:00 a.m. to 3:10 p.m.
Elementary Schools: 8:10 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.
Middle Schools: 8:50 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Alt. Ed Schools: No change

Congratulations to Kailee Marshall, Oklahoma School Counselor of the Year 2026!

The Oklahoma School Counselor Association is proud to announce that Kailee Marshall, School Counselor at Roosevelt Middle School in Oklahoma City, has been named the 2026 Oklahoma School Counselor of the Year. This prestigious recognition celebrates Kailee’s unwavering commitment to students, her exceptional leadership, and her passion for creating meaningful change in her school community.

Kailee has served as a School Counselor at Roosevelt Middle School for the past four years. Prior to becoming a counselor, she spent two years in the classroom as a teacher before earning her Master of Education in School Counseling. She is currently continuing her professional journey by working toward licensure as a Professional Counselor, further demonstrating her dedication to growth and service.

Known for her dedication and leadership, it has been said that Kailee “works tirelessly to create a school culture that is inclusive, supportive, and focused on the holistic development of all students.” She leads with integrity, compassion, and a deep belief in the potential of every student - qualities that shine through in every interaction, initiative, and program she champions.

Through hard work, vision, and strong collaboration, Kailee and her school counseling team achieved remarkable success this year. They earned the OSCAR award from the Oklahoma School Counselor Association in October 2025 and went on to receive the highly respected Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) designation from the American School Counselor Association in February 2026 - an accomplishment that reflects excellence in implementing a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program.

As the Oklahoma School Counselor of the Year, Kailee will now be considered for the American School Counselor Association School Counselor of the Year award at the national level. She will be honored by ASCA in Washington, D.C. in February 2027 and will represent Oklahoma at the ASCA Annual Conference in Columbus, Ohio, in summer 2027.

On behalf of the Oklahoma School Counselor Association, congratulations, Kailee! Your dedication, leadership, and heart for students make a lasting difference every single day.
