🕷️ Hands-On Learning in Veterinary Technology! 🐾

Our Veterinary Technology students put their creativity and parasite identification skills to work during a recent tick species activity lab!

Using Play-Doh, students created models of different tick species, focusing on the physical characteristics and identifying features that help distinguish one species from another. 🔬

Who knew learning ticks could be this colorful? 🕷️🎨

💉 IV Catheter & Fluid Therapy Lab 🩺🐾

Our Veterinary Technology students have been busy building essential hands-on skills in preparation for our Clinics & Nursing spay/neuter labs this fall!

During lab, students practiced:
🐾 Aseptic preparation for IV catheter placement
💉 IV catheter placement
🩹 Proper catheter taping and securing techniques
💧 Setting up IV fluid lines
⚙️ Programming and operating IV fluid pumps

These foundational skills are an important part of preparing our students to safely and confidently care for surgical patients—from pre-operative preparation through anesthesia and recovery.

Hands-on practice today = confidence in the clinic tomorrow! 🧡🖤

🐾 Calling Oklahoma Veterinarians! 🐾

The OSU-OKC Veterinary Technology Program is seeking volunteer DVMs to assist with our Clinics & Nursing Surgery Labs this fall.

🩺 About the Lab
Work alongside our second-year Veterinary Technology students as they develop essential surgical nursing skills in a supervised learning environment. Students are responsible for pre-operative diagnostics, anesthesia induction and monitoring, sterile surgical assistance, and post-operative patient recovery while receiving real-time instruction from faculty and RVTs.

Volunteer DVMs will:
✔ Perform pre-operative physical examinations
✔ Conduct routine spay/neuter surgeries for shelter dogs and cats
✔ Mentor and support future veterinary technicians
✔ Help provide valuable hands-on learning experiences for students

📍 Lab Schedule
• Approximately 4-hour commitment
• DVM arrival around 10:00 AM
• Procedures typically conclude by 2:00 PM
• Approximately 4 procedures per lab day

✔ Eligible teaching hours count toward Continuing Education (CE) requirements for Oklahoma veterinary license renewal
✔ Help train the next generation of RVTs

🎓🐾 That’s a wrap! 🐾🎓

Please join us in congratulating our Veterinary Technology students on completing the final courses of their degree program! Their hard work, dedication, and countless hours of learning have led to this incredible milestone.

Next stop: the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) in August as they take the next step on their journey to becoming Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs).

We are so proud of all they have accomplished and can’t wait to celebrate their success as they enter the veterinary profession.

Welcome, Veterinary Technology Class of 2028! 🐾

We are excited to officially welcome 24 new students to the OSU-OKC Veterinary Technology Program!

Over the next two years, these future veterinary technicians will develop the knowledge, skills, compassion, and professionalism needed to make a difference in the lives of animals and the people who care for them.
