Every MMA student spends 20 hours shadowing working massage therapists before they graduate. Not assigned at random — matched to what lights them up. When a student told me oncology massage had captured her heart, our 2,000-member Oklahoma LMT community helped me connect her with a therapist leading a team that works alongside the Stephenson Cancer Center in OKC. That's the model: your curiosity, my community, real doors opening. School should show you how big this profession actually is — then walk you through the door.

Everyone comes to a national convention to learn. I came with a mission. As Oklahoma's new Education Chair, my job this week is to find an exceptional educator and bring them home — to headline AMTA Oklahoma's education event next year. That means every class I sit in, every conversation between sessions, every educator I meet, I'm asking one question: is this the teacher Oklahoma therapists deserve? Our state's massage community is 2,000+ strong and hungry to grow. My job is to feed it. I'll report back.

Some news I've been sitting on: I've been voted Education Chair for the AMTA Oklahoma chapter. This week I'm at the AMTA National Convention in Denver wearing that new hat — sitting in classes focused on student experience, learning from educators across the country, and representing Oklahoma massage therapists on the national floor. Thirteen years in practice, eight years teaching, and I still get butterflies about this profession. Denver, let's go.

This weekend, the doors close and the real work begins. Our students are spending two full days immersed in sports massage techniques and assisted stretching — the informed kind, where the nervous system leads and anatomy drives every decision.
