🚨URGENT ACTION:

Governor Kevin Stitt is planning to veto two very important education bills. Please contact your legislator TODAY and ask for their support in overriding these actions:

SB 1630 by Sen. Kristen Thompson, R-Edmond, and Rep. Anthony Moore, R-Clinton, would allow high schools to offer a virtual instruction day for students while high school juniors are taking the ACT or another required statewide test. This bill had overwhelming support in the House and Senate.

HB 4326 by Rep. Anthony Moore, R-Clinton, and Sen. Ally Seifried, R-Claremore, clarifies that children of counselors, librarians, nurses, athletic trainers, and alternatively certified teachers are among those eligible under last year's expansion of Oklahoma's Promise providing college scholarships for children of teachers. It also clarifies that adopted children and children in the legal care of a certified teacher would be eligible. It also allows students who completed the core curriculum to use the scholarship at a career technology center. This bill had overwhelming support in the House and Senate.

Urge your Senator to vote NO on HB 3718 TODAY—protect Oklahoma’s public schools and ensure accountability in scholarship eligibility.

HB 3718 proposes automatic eligibility for the Lindsey Nicole Henry Scholarship, granting private school vouchers to students even when there is no documented need for special education services. This means that students who have not been officially identified as requiring special education support could receive taxpayer-funded vouchers, diverting critical resources from public schools.

The bill also imposes new evaluation timelines that districts may not be able to realistically meet, shortening the period for thorough assessments.

If districts are unable to comply with these timelines, vouchers are awarded by default, regardless of whether the student ultimately qualifies for special education services. Once granted, students are permitted to retain these vouchers throughout their elementary and secondary education careers without ever demonstrating actual eligibility for special education.

Public schools are funded only AFTER voucher allocations have been set aside, meaning HB 3718 could significantly reduce available funding for students who remain in public schools.

Contact your Senator now and urge them to vote NO on HB 3718. Tell them: “I oppose HB 3718 because it awards private school vouchers without documented need, threatens public school funding, and undermines educational accountability for Oklahoma’s children.”

The Oklahoma State Board of Education recently approved new social studies standards that differ significantly from the version submitted by the OSDE Office of Standards and Learning.
❗Key changes—including revisions to Native history content and more emphasis on patriotism in early grades—were made secretly and without input from the original committee of educators and stakeholders.
The legislature can now either vote on these standards or take no action, in which case the standards quietly go into effect.
🚨Email and ask your state lawmakers if they are aware of the private modifications made without committee or public input.
🚨Email OSDE board members to express opposition to standards altered without educator involvement.
⬇️Contact information in comments.
