We're excited to announce our upcoming regional training, Related Services Evaluations for Multilingual & English Learners, happening Friday, September 18th, featuring special guest speakers Amy Wilson from Union Public Schools and Kerry Fox from Tulsa Public Schools!

This session tackles one of the most persistent challenges in school-based practice: how to tell the difference between a language or cultural difference and a true disability-related need. You'll walk away with practical strategies for conducting fair, legally defensible eligibility evaluations for ML/EL students, including how to reduce bias in your assessment methods, use interpreters and dynamic assessment effectively, write documentation that clearly separates language difference from disability, and collaborate with ESL staff to gather the background information that makes eligibility decisions stronger. Content is directly relevant across OT, PT, and speech-language practice, not just speech.

REGISTRATION LINK IS IN THE COMMENTS!

Date: Friday, September 18th
Registration: 9:00-9:30 AM
Program: 9:30 AM start

Special Guest Speakers:
Amy Wilson, Union Public Schools
Kerry Fox, Tulsa Public Schools

Whether you join us in Tulsa or online, we'd love to have you there. Please register using the link above if attending virtually, and feel free to share this with colleagues who serve ML/EL students.

We look forward to seeing you on the 18th!

The first workshop of the school year is set for September 24, 2026, at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

You'll learn how to:
• Build your knowledge of AT, AEM, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and federal
requirements related to supporting students with disabilities.
• Apply practical strategies for effectively considering AT during educational planning and decision-making.
• Discover ways to gather information, explore options, and trial AT devices as part of the AT assessment process.
• Strengthen your ability to appropriately include AT in the individualized education program (IEP) and
support successful implementation.
• And more!!

Eligible districts may also qualify for Project 613 Reimbursement for substitute pay and travel expenses.

This fact sheet explores the roles and responsibilities of APE and SBPT under IDEA, including where these services overlap, how they differ, and how collaboration can help support student access and success at school.
