🌿🌻🌳SCIENCE - On Friday, our 4th and 5th grade Monarch class used different textured cereals to make 'edible soil' for their current soil project. They were given premixed 'soil,' identified their soil combination on the soil texture triangle, and then made their own delicious soil combinations.

PLANT STUDY 🌱 Yesterday in our Discovery Pk-2nd grade class, we began our study of Dionaea muscipila commonly know as a Venus flytrap!
We started by creating a KWL chart, where students shared what they already know and what they want to learn about these fascinating plants. This helped guide our curiosity and questions for the week.
Next, we read about Venus flytraps in our Secret World of Plants book and learned more about how they grow and survive. Students then had the chance to observe real Venus flytraps up close using magnifying glasses, noticing their unique features and how they work.
We’re excited to keep learning more about these incredible plants!

HANDS-ON LEARNING - Hands-on learning is an important part of our program at Redbud Farm School! In our 2nd Grade Armadillo class, students used LEGOs to build arrays and practice multiplication by counting rows and columns. This gave them a visual understanding of multiplication and helped them solve more challenging problems with confidence.

A huge thank you to our parents, grandparents, and volunteers who helped make it all happen. We couldn’t have done it without you. 💚

SPONTANEOUS TURTLE OBSERVATION 🐢. This morning, on our way to the outdoor classroom, our Honeybee class found a little box turtle. We took this opportunity to review what we know about reptiles and use our observation skills to make discoveries in the moment. Students watched the turtle find its way to a piece of apple on the ground and eat it.

Our 2nd Grade Armadillo class is getting ready for Earth Day with something a little unique… 🌱🐌
They’ve been creating “Seed Snails!”
Seed snails are layers of soil and seeds rolled up inside sheets of plastic or foam—almost like a spiral garden you can hold in your hand. This method allows students to plant far more seeds in a small space than traditional planting, while also helping retain moisture and support early growth.
On Friday, during our Earth Day celebration, our students will plant their seed snails throughout the garden. As they unroll and take root, these compact spirals will begin to spread and grow—turning into thriving patches of plants over time.
It’s a hands-on way for students to explore efficient planting, sustainability, and the science of how things grow—all while getting their hands in the dirt.
We’re excited to watch these seed snails come to life 🌎💚
