We were honored to welcome National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Mary Anne Carter to Oklahoma Contemporary today for a tour of our facility and a visit with campers in our Camp Contemporary program.

Thank you to Chairman Carter for taking the time to experience firsthand how the arts inspire creativity, learning and community. We were also delighted to welcome leaders from the Oklahoma Arts Council as we showcased the impact of arts education across Oklahoma.

Join us this Saturday at Oklahoma Contemporary for Tierras Libres: A Communal Celebration of the Land, a free day of community art-making and performance.

Community Flag-Making Workshop | 1–3 p.m.
Create a flag using locally grown flora that will become part of the evening's performance.

Performance & Reception | 6–8 p.m.
Watch members of the Great Plains Rodeo Association across Oklahoma carry the community-created flags across campus in a moving celebration of community and the land, then enjoy live music, refreshments and conversation.

Tierras Libres: A Communal Celebration of the Land – Oklahoma Contemporary 07/27/2026

Tierras Libres: A Communal Celebration of the Land takes place on Saturday, Aug. 1, at Oklahoma Contemporary.

The day begins with a Community Flag-Making Workshop from 1–3 p.m., where participants will create flags from locally grown flora. Then, from 6–8 p.m., experience a collaborative performance featuring members of the Great Plains Rodeo Association and representatives of communities across Oklahoma as the handmade flags become part of a procession across campus, followed by a reception.
