The new centerdramatically increases Oklahoma Contemporary’s capacity for free, internationally relevant exhibitions and programming and increase art access and education for citizens of Oklahoma, students and visitors alike. Developed by and for Oklahomans to present and explore the key innovations, issues and concerns of the art of our time, Oklahoma Contemporary does so while drawing on the dynamic aesthetic, cultural, historical and political landscape of the state. At its core, the institution is an inclusive space – Oklahoma Contemporary believes that art is for everyone and places accessibility and education at the center of all programming. Oklahoma Contemporary is a regional 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 1989 by businessman and philanthropist Christian Keesee and Kirkpatrick Foundation Director Marilyn Myers.

Don't be an American Idiot — Nimrods is coming to Oklahoma Contemporary!

Join us Saturday, Oct. 10, for a free screening of Nimrods, a coming-of-age comedy following three best friends and bandmates on a cross-country road trip to Los Angeles for the opportunity of a lifetime: opening for Green Day on New Year's Eve.

Rock out with a hair-coloring station, artmaking inspired by the legendary puppet Gravy and more before sticking around for a post-screening panel featuring Kylr Coffman (actor), Toni Marlow (makeup department head/designer), and Justin Parks (stunt coordinator), moderated by Kaylene Snarsky.

One last look.

After nearly 10 months in our Sculpture Garden, the scheduled presentation of Joel Shapiro’s Untitled comes to a close Sept. 15.

As a non-collecting arts center, the works on view at Oklahoma Contemporary are always changing, giving us the opportunity to bring new artists and ideas to Oklahoma City. But that also means saying goodbye to works that, for a time, become part of this place.

Shapiro, who passed away last year at age 83, was one of the most influential sculptors of his generation, transforming simple geometric forms into works that seem to balance, move, and gesture through space.

Come take one last look before Untitled is deinstalled on Sept. 15. As always, admission to Oklahoma Contemporary — inside and out — is free.
