Thank you Oklahoma Children's Hospital OU Health for your support of our model! Together, we are creating a brighter future for ALL Oklahoma children. ✨🩺📚
At Oklahoma Children’s OU Health, healing goes beyond medicine. It also happens through connection. One powerful way we support that connection is through the Reach Out and Read program.
Through Reach Out and Read, providers like OU Health pediatrician Dr. Marny Dunlap bring the joy of reading into everyday care by sharing books with families during visits and encouraging reading at home.
Dr. Dunlap has been a driving force behind this work, helping launch Oklahoma Children's Reach Out and Read program back in 2001. Since then, her leadership has helped embed early literacy into pediatric care across our system.
These small moments make a big impact. Reading together supports language development, strengthens growing brains, and helps children build strong emotional bonds with their caregivers.
In the clinical setting, reading can also:
📚 Ease stress and anxiety during visits
📚 Create meaningful bonding moments for families
📚 Help children feel more comfortable and engaged
📚 Support early literacy and school readiness
Programs like this show that when families receive books and guidance from their care team, children are more likely to be read to regularly and develop stronger language skills over time.
Whether it’s a bedtime story at home or a book shared during a checkup, these moments matter. They’re helping build stronger minds, healthier relationships, and brighter futures, one page at a time.

Simple. Effective. Scalable. Magical. ♥️🙌
Routine well-child visits are about much more than checking growth milestones. They're a chance to support your child's learning, language, and growing curiosity about the world. 💙📚
For many families, a pediatric visit is where a new book comes home and reading together becomes part of everyday life.
Because something as simple as opening a book is a powerful part of setting children up for success.
