Reach Out and Read Oklahoma We believe in an Oklahoma where every child has the relationships essential to learn and thrive.

Founded in 1989, Reach Out and Read’s model includes providing a new, age-appropriate book for each child to take home at every checkup from 6 months through 5 years. Along with the free book for every child, doctors and nurses offer guidance to parents about the importance of reading aloud with their children every day. Nationwide, Reach Out and Read doctors and nurses serve 5 million children and their families annually at nearly 5,000 pediatric practices, hospitals, clinics, and health centers in all 50 states, with a focus on health centers that serve low-income communities. In Oklahoma, more than 300 medical providers are giving new books and literacy guidance to more than 57,000 children and their parents each year. Reach Out and Read is a proven intervention, supported by 15 independent, published research studies. During the preschool years, children served by Reach Out and Read score three to six months ahead of their non-Reach Out and Read peers on vocabulary tests, preparing them to start school on target. In the past, Reach Out and Read has been honored for its impact on literacy by organizations including the American Hospital Association and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization.

We know all too well the importance of early relationships! Grab a book, snuggle close, sing a song, share a giggle, these days are so magical. 📚♥️

Fred Rogers once said that “Human relationships are primary in all of living. When the gusty winds blow and shake our lives, if we know that people care about us, we may bend with the wind… but we won’t break.”

Thank you Acts 2 - United Methodist Church for your donation of over 1,300 gently used books and donation of over $600 to Reach Out and Read Oklahoma. The gently used books will restock waiting rooms and exam rooms in clinics across the state. The funds collected will provide almost 200 new books for children at their next well child visit. 👏👏👏
