Thank you to all who attended our fish fry for OCU’s Juneteenth Celebration! In the Black community, the fish fry is a profound cultural institution, symbolizing resilience, fellowship, and ancestral heritage. More than just a meal, it evolved from survival during slavery into a cornerstone for church fundraising, community organizing, and family bonding.
Thank you for connecting and engaging with us! Feel free to stop at our table in the student lounge to learn more about Juneteenth and grab some Juneteenth flags🖤

On May 31 and June 1, 1921, a white mob carried out a coordinated attack on Greenwood, a prosperous Black neighborhood home to doctors, lawyers, business owners, schools, and over 10,000 Black residents.
On Greenwood’s 105th anniversary of the massacre, Mayor Nichols declared June 1 an annual day of observance, encouraging residents, schools, businesses, and organizations to honor the victims and reflect on the massacre’s legacy through events, educational programs, and community engagement.
