At the Epworth Villa senior living community, the writing workshop doesn't follow a syllabus. There are no frantic students pulling all-nighters or grading rubrics.
Instead, there is what Oklahoma City University English professor Rob Roensch calls a "meaningful, ceremonial sharing." The workshops Roensch has led since 2017 allow residents to get to know one another while pursuing a passion post retirement.

Petree College student Alanna LaDeaux was recently named a Udall Scholar, the first OCU student to receive the award in nearly 30 years. The Udall Scholarship is one of the most prestigious awards in the country, granted to students who demonstrate future leadership in tribal policy, health care or the environment.
LaDeaux, a member of the Rosebud Sioux tribe, will start at the OCU School of Law next year. In the future, she plans to focus on the Indian Child Welfare Act. "Itβs this idea that any time a child is removed from their biological family, they still have priority with tribal families to preserve their heritage. Itβs important that we continue working toward those things."
That commitment to preserving tribal lineage has now earned Alanna a place in OCU history. Congratulations, Alanna! π

There are two new exciting shows now on display in the OCU Norick Art Center. A new exhibition, Signal Convergence, by artist Leticia R. Bajuyo is on display in the Hulsey Gallery. This exhibition features three theremin stations placed throughout the gallery. During performance, their sounds travel through horns made from thousands of CDs and DVDs, meeting at a shared point where the sound overlaps, grows stronger, and breaks apart.
Stayed Too Long at the Fair by artist Sharon Kyle is now on display in the Hall Gallery. Kyle's work explores the quiet beauty that emerges through time, decay, and transformation. Using rusted metal, weathered wood, and discarded fragments, she creates mixed media assemblages that reflect the aging of women β shaped and strengthened by nature and experience.
The OCU Norick Art Center is open Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., through July. Admission is free!
