What an incredible turnout for our Chippewa Middle School Ribbon Cutting last Tuesday!

Students, families, staff, alumni and community members came together to celebrate the opening of the new building, tour the facilities and explore the learning spaces that will support our students for years to come. Now, with the school year officially underway, those same spaces are filled each day with learning and connection.

First Day of the School Year: ✅

Thank you to every member of our teams who helped make today possible — our teachers, support staff, food service teams, transportation staff, custodians, administrators, office professionals and so many others working across the district.

Most importantly, thank you to our students and families. Everything that goes into preparing for a new school year — every classroom prepared, meal served, bus route driven, building readied and detail planned — is done to give our students the opportunities, support and school experience they deserve.

Our students brought incredible energy and excitement into our schools today, and we are grateful to our families for their patience, flexibility, trust and partnership as we begin another year - together.

Thank you to everyone who played a part in making the first day of the 2026–27 school year such a strong start. Welcome back, Okemos!

⚠️ Upcoming Hulett Road Work & Closure ⚠️

Weather-dependent, the Township's contractors will be performing the following work on Hulett Road from Okemos Road to Bennett Road from Monday, August 24, to Saturday, September 5:

• August 24: Finish pouring concrete.
• August 25 to August 28: Allow concrete to cure and grade the road to prepare for paving. The road will be graded well prior to the first day of school on Wednesday, August 26.
• August 29 and August 30: Pave the first of two layers of asphalt.
• August 31 to September 5: Restore asphalt and concrete driveways.

Hulett Road will be closed to northbound traffic from Saturday, August 29 to Saturday, September 5. Southbound traffic will be maintained on the side of the road that is not actively being paved.

All school bus routes are southbound only, but the first two paving dates are currently scheduled over a weekend.

Once all driveways have been restored, the Township will announce the two scheduled dates to pave the second and final layer of asphalt on Hulett Road.

After paving is complete, we will construct gravel shoulders, restore grass, apply pavement markings to Hulett Road, install new signage, and adjust mailboxes as needed.

We appreciate the public's patience as we work to improve our community.

Families, staff, students and community members are invited to join us from 5:30–7:30 PM as we recognize this exciting milestone and the many people who helped bring the new school to life.

We look forward to celebrating this new chapter for Chippewa Middle School and the Okemos community together!

New multilingual students and families are invited to join Okemos Public Schools for a welcome event on Monday, August 17 from 4–6 PM at Okemos High School!

Families can enjoy free food, meet school staff, connect with other families, and learn more about multilingual services, translation and interpreter support, school programs, technology, and transportation.

🐺 Join the pack for the 3rd Annual Okemos Wolf Run — Saturday, August 29!

The Wolf Run returns to Okemos High School Stadium, bringing together students, families, staff, runners and local businesses for a morning of movement, connection and Okemos spirit. Participants of all ages and abilities can take part in the 5K Wolf Run & Walk, Roll & Stroll, Family Mile Run, Kids Sprint and see the Mascot Trot finale.

Use promo code "OkieRuns" through midnight on Sunday, August 2, to save $5 on registration - link in the comments below!

This year also marks the launch of the Wolf Run Impact Grant Program. The OHS Dance Team, OHS Varsity Cheer Team, OHS JV Cheer Team and Okemos Woof Pack will each receive a $500 grant. If the event reaches 500 registered participants, each grant will double to $1,000!

🍎 All Okemos Public Schools students will continue to receive free breakfast and lunch during the 2026–2027 school year!

Even though meals are available at no cost, families are still encouraged to complete the Education Benefit Application. Qualifying households may also receive reduced or waived fees for AP exams, college applications and pay-to-participate athletics. Applications are confidential and may be submitted at any time during the school year.

🐾 Last month, families, students, staff, and community partners came together at OHS for an evening of fun, learning, and connection during our Protect the Pack event. From meeting local first responders and community organizations to enjoying food trucks, bounce houses, face painting and spending time with our WoofPack, it was a great way to kick off summer safely!

Thank you to everyone who attended, and to the many volunteers, sponsors, and community partners who helped make the evening such a success. We loved seeing our community come together!
