Our last day in Paris! We got up early and headed out to watch the parade. The French National Holiday, Le Quatorze (It's Bastille Day, but they don't really say that, just like we don't refer to the 4th as Independence Day) is celebrated with a military parade. Tanks, airplanes overhead, and soldiers marching. There are no twirlers, scouts, or gymnasts. I didn't get any pictures (short girl problems).

After that we went to wander the Latin Quarter for lunch and shopping. The kids wanted to shop near the hotel before heading out to dinner at Sacre Coeur. They got a chance to try escargot and we finished with a chocolate mousse. The French don't really understand why anyone would want to be a vegetarian so I got mashed potatoes sitting on a pile of mushrooms.

We had a great plan to watch the fireworks near our hotel by the Eiffel Tower. This should have been easy because the show goes off right by the tower. The French police had the streets by our hotel closed though so we had to improvise. A few of us had rooms with tower views so we watched from there. High rise hotel for the win!

A group of us got up to walk on the final morning before heading to the airport. What a fabulous trip. 4 years of planning, rescheduling, registering, canceling were absolutely worth it!

I'm eternally grateful to Kim Floyd, Danielle Tandoc, and Tracy Behan, without whom I could not have pulled this off.

I'm also thankful to the students and their parents for trusting us! Their behavior was outstanding! As far as I know, no one snuck out for a tattoo.

OHS Teachers take over Paris! Madame and I tried to get a French teacher/twin pic…she looks perfect in everyone and I dunno what my problem was! 😝 we had fun with the photo shoot tho!

Day +1

After 3 hours of sleep I was thankful for some carb rich comfort food, my book, and a long bus ride. We met the bus at 7:45 and headed to Normandy for a visit to the American Cemetery and the city of Arromanches. This is always a very meaningful day and I wasn't the only one to cry at he museum. The 360 movie they saw really helps set the scene for the relevance of the cemetery.

After a lunch of fish and chips by the beach we got on the bus for our return to Paris.

Day # I'mnotsure

We got up early to head to Mt St Michel. Breakfast was amazing, as usual. On the way we stopped at Carrefour to shop for picnic supplies and we ate at the base, just outside the entrance. The steps to the top were definitely worth it.

Our next stop was St Malo where we had dinner and enjoyed some time on the beach. The dinner was definitely a favorite for everyone. We walked to the ramparts (which was right in front of our hotel) and then several of the kids dipped their toes in La Manche. The evening was not without incident but everything turned out ok . In case you were wondering, French hospitals provide great service.

The kids are only outpacing the adults in shopping.
