The BasketTree

The BasketTree I create unique baskets from natures bounty. I also have a line of keepsake baskets in which I incorporate your special memorabilia into the weaving.

Baskets have been a part of history, making a particular job or task easier for ages. I began weaving after taking classes from Master weavers in order to learn special skills to repair an heirloom basket that was very dear to me. I traveled and studied weaving from Native American Indians in Arizona, New Mexico and Kansas. I found Early American Baskets style weaving challenging and after many cl

asses in Michigan I am able to recreate any basket style from this time period. I have been weaving for twenty seven years. I create Beautiful Baskets using the methods and techniques of early settlers and Native American Indians. I am a Master Weaver. Though I have been weaving and creating baskets for people to purchase and adorn their homes and businesses for many years, I have started to create a special line of baskets in which I use items people have a fondness toward to create a special keepsake for them. Some of these are Items collected on a vacation maybe to the beach and include seashells and driftwood or a hunting trip and include the antlers from the trophy deer or elk they got. Perhaps a special cowboy/cowgirl's rope they used in competitions rodeos or was awarded a belt buckle. On a more sentimental level when a loved one has passed away and a person has a belt, or string-tie or something that was the loved one's, I incorporate the item into the weaving of a basket for them to enjoy seeing on a daily bases. Most basket are unique and one of a kind if they are created from nature's bounty. This is because of size, weight, and length of materials I find on nature walks in the woods around our home in Oklahoma. Some I create with materials I find at auctions and because of a limited supply of different materials I choose to include they can not be duplicated. Please feel free to contact me if you would like me to create a special basket for you. Basket Prices will vary because of size and style and length of time it takes to weave the chosen style. I teach Basket weaving classes at the Okfuskee County History Center located on Main Street in Okemah, OK. If you would like to take a basket weaving class check the news feed on this page to see when the next up and coming class will be. Cost of classes and length of time the classes are will also vary do to material cost and how difficult the weaving technique is of the basket. Most of time a basket will be finished in class time of between 3 and 4 hours for beginner level baskets. Smile,

I have my baskets for you to shop thinking Christmas Gift at the Okemah’s Holiday House at the corner of 4th Street and Broadway in Okemah, OK. I want to say thank you to all my friends, neighbors and followers of the BasketTree that come shopping my baskets to give as a gift this Holiday Season. I’m thankful for your support of my weaving. It’s always wonderful to have the opportunity to weave some consignment baskets with special and sentimental items to them woven in. If there is a special basket you need made specifically please don’t hesitate to call me. 580-334-1947. I’m not sure how long it might take with the cancer slowing me down at times. However I’ll do my best to have what you need finished for when you need them.

I want to say thank you to all my friends, neighbors and followers of the BasketTree that came to shop in my basket booth in the Okemah Holiday House. I’m thankful for your support of my weaving. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to weave some consignment baskets with special and sentimental items to them woven in. I am giving away a free woven ornament for any who purchase a basket December 26th, 27th, and 28th. While Ornaments last. I will be picking up my baskets Saturday. The Okemah Holiday House will be closed officially Saturday when the last of its vendors pick up their items. If there is a basket you need please don’t hesitate to call me. 580-334-1947.

Well this is an interesting thought for my creek bank that's eroding.

River bank revetment with willow spiling

Willow spiling is the most common and best known green solution for bank revetment. The technique uses woven living willow to form flexible, live, growing structures which resist and deflect water flows, enabling the bank and vegetation to naturally re-generate and stabilise to prevent further erosion.

Willow spiling is a traditional soft engineering technique used to stabilise eroding banks. It consists of weaving live willow rods between live willow stakes set into the affected bank at regular intervals. The space behind the willow wall to the existing bank is then filled with soil to provide an area for the willow roots to grow.

Osier willow is considered to be the most appropriate species to provide poles, due to its pliable nature and the fact that it is an indigenous species. Alternatively, commercially available alternatives could be used, but these will require more vertical support posts. Willow spiling is normally carried out between November and April during the harvesting of the willow (dependent upon the season) and should be installed within three weeks of harvest.
