Had a decent look at a migrating Northern Waterthrush this morning. On the move, from branch to branch, bobbing his tail consistently.

The Northern Waterthrush winters in tropical and subtropical regions, ranging from southern Florida, southern Texas, and Bermuda through Central America and the West Indies down to northern South America (including Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, and reaching Peru). ~ All About Birds

Birding yesterday was filled with a lot of the familiar species, not a bad thing!

But as soon as I sat on my front porch, I had someone looking right at me! A beautiful Prothonotary Warbler. So, it was nice to observe, watch the movements from bush to bush and tree to tree.

Sometimes the best birds are right in front of you. 💛💛💛💛

Dolly Parton was beloved by so many, and she was one of a kind! I remember my parents playing “Islands in The Stream” like there was no tomorrow 🩷

But Dolly Parton didn’t just entertain us; she played a huge role in the conversation of The Bald Eagle 🦅.

Dolly Parton partnered with the American Eagle Foundation in 1990 to create the Eagle Mountain Sanctuary at her Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

The partnership built a massive 1.5-million-cubic-foot aviary that opened in April 1991, becoming the country’s largest presentation of non-releasable Bald Eagles.

Millions of visitors learned about birds of prey, and the facility provided a safe haven, medical clinic, and rehabilitation center for injured or orphaned eagles that could not survive on their own.

In 2003, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service honored Dolly Parton with its Partnership Award for her dedication to Bald Eagles recovery. (American Eagle Foundation).

Morning birding adventures & some info about why your yard might be a little more quiet right now.

Nice migration night through Beaufort County, SC, fallouts from the expected species like Prairie Warblers. Did see a tricky to find (because he was in the thick of branches) Black and White Warbler. Ended the morning with a Ruby Throated Hummingbird perched perfectly!

Prothonotary Warbler with an American Beautyberry for the win! 💛💜

These beautiful migratory birds, get their name from the brilliant, glowing yellow robes traditionally worn by high-ranking papal clerks and notaries (called prothonotaries) in the Roman Catholic Church, mimicking the bird’s striking lemon-yellow head and body.

Another fine example of native plants and their importance to our ecosystem. American Beautyberries start off with vibrant clusters of bright purple to magenta-violet fruit wrap tightly around the stems from late summer through winter. đź’ś

Don’t worry, he’s not sick or injured! This male Painted Bunting is going through his molt. He may look a bit rough, but this is a natural process!

Painted Buntings undergo a unique molting process in late summer before fall migration, where adult males renew their bright red, blue, and green feathers.

He’ll eventually shed his worn feathers and regrow the exact same brilliant multi-colored red, blue, and green pattern, that we all love! ❤️💙💚

It’s always fun to see an early migrant on a blazing hot 🥵 morning!

Chestnut Sided Warblers breeding grounds spread across eastern North America and Canada in second-growth woods, clear-cuts, and power line right-of-ways.

They migrate south to spend winters in the tropical brush, thickets, and shade-coffee plantations of Central America.

Fun fact about this particular species; famous for being so rare in the early 1800s that ornithologist John James Audubon only saw one. Their numbers surged as 19th-century logging opened up ideal scrubby habitats.
