We have completed our first week of school! We want to thank Mary Albrecht for the really fun sensory table for the lower grade classroom that fit our Enchanted Forest theme. It has been such a hit and helped everyone settle into school.

This morning we were blessed to begin the 2026-2027 school year under the guidance of Jesus. The theme for our school year is “Let Your Light Shine,” which Pastor reminded us in our opening service we are only able to do through the light of Jesus filling us. Our new teacher Mrs. Liepold wasn’t able to be in the staff and student photo but her classes got off to a great start! We are so excited to have her expertise with us! May the Lord be with our students, staff, congregation and school, and grant us a year of growing in faith, learning, friendship, and fun!

St. John’s Lutheran School will start in just over a week! The teachers have been working to get their classrooms ready, and here are a couple sneak-peak pictures! Our school theme this year is Let Your Light Shine and the lower grade classroom is an Enchanted Forest. We are excited to get started!

Our week of VBS is already over. What a fun and fast week and an amazing experience for the students and helpers alike! We learned about forgiveness from Joseph, kneeling at the cross from John, and also to let our light shine. We also learned a couple verses from the hymn “Tell Me the Story of Jesus,” which the students will sing in church this weekend. The students made medals decorated with foil covered crosses and Christian stickers, ribbons with their names and pictures, and shrinky dink trophy and ribbon keychains. On Friday everyone had an extra bit of fun on a hot day with water activities and a hot dog cookout. What a fun way to wrap up the week! Just about everyone got wet!

We want to thank everyone who helped out. So many people gave their time and talents to make VBS a success! We want to thank the teachers Jolene Albrecht, Peyton Bose, Kendal Bose, and Christian and Rachel Kazemba, craft and decoration helpers Jill Liepold, Amy Ruthenbeck, Kayla Strike, and Kassie Voit, music teachers Ruth Eigenberg and Lana Strike, devotion leader Pastor Rodebaugh, superintendent and T-shirt creator Kassie Voit, and cookout griller Nathan Voit. We also want to thank everyone who provided snacks, hot dogs and fixings, water activity supplies, donations, advertising, and any other help for the week! Also to the parents for bringing your children and working on the song at home! VBS was a blessing for all involved, and lots of great memories were made. We can’t wait until next year!

VBS is off to a wonderful start! The theme is “Champions for Jesus” and the students have learned how Caleb and Joshua put their trust in the Lord in very difficult situations and Naaman’s servant girl wasn’t afraid to speak up to her master about God’s healing power. The students tie-dyed socks to remember to keep walking in faith and decorated jerseys to remember we are on the same team to spread God’s Word. We want to thank all the dedicated volunteers who are working so hard to make this a faith-building and educational week!

What’s the best treat after the Fourth of July parade in Okabena? Ice cream! Thanks to all who came and helped with serving and cleanup at the ice cream social at St. John’s. It was such a fun time for all!

Our art fair and program were a success! The students displayed several projects they had made over the school year in our walk-through rainforest and also presented a skit, songs, ukeleles, and kindergarten got to graduate! It was such a fun evening and we are very thankful for all who came to enjoy this experience with us
