What is education for…
Some thoughts on that question from Alan Watts with backing footage from The Tree of Life by Terrence Malick.

We’re so excited to share our upcoming summer camp offerings—created for both children and families to play, create, explore, and connect in a warm, inspiring environment. 🌿✨

For our youngest learners, summer camp days are filled with hands-on art, sensory play, outdoor adventures, movement, friendship, and the kind of meaningful childhood magic summer should be made of.

We’re also thrilled to offer a special Cob Camp for adults and children—a unique opportunity to work side by side using natural building materials, get your hands in the earth, and experience the joy of creating together. It’s a beautiful way to connect, collaborate, and learn something new as a family.

Whether your child is joining us for camp, or you’re coming together for Cob Camp, there’s something special waiting for you this summer at RTS. ☀️

Spots are limited, and we’d love to have you with us!

Community Call — Ojai & Beyond!

Several of our learners at Rock Tree Sky are passionate about computer science through computational redstone — using Minecraft’s redstone system to explore real coding logic, circuitry, and engineering concepts.

We’re looking for a community member (coder, engineer, game developer, educator, or enthusiast!) who’d be willing to come share their knowledge and geek out with curious minds.

If you or someone you know has a background in CS, programming, or just loves redstone — we’d love to connect!

Drop a comment, send a DM, or reach out to us directly. At RTS, community is the curriculum. 🙏

After saying goodbye to Spike last summer, our space held a quiet little hole—one that many learners still felt in the small, everyday moments. ❤️

Recently, that space was gently filled as we welcomed a new friend into our community: Thorn, our bearded dragon.

From the very beginning, this wasn’t just about bringing in a new class pet—it was a shared experience. Learners stepped into the process by submitting name ideas, thoughtfully considering each one, and ultimately voting together to choose “Thorn.” There was excitement, ownership, and a real sense of community woven into every step.

Now, Thorn has already become part of the rhythm of our days—sparking curiosity, connection, and care. From observing his movements to wondering about his habitat, learners are naturally leaning into questions and responsibility in a way that feels both meaningful and joyful.

Welcome to Rock Tree Sky, Thorn. 🦎✨

Sometimes connection sounds like rhythm. 🥁

An impromptu bucket drum session broke out between two teen learners and a mentor, and for a few minutes the space filled with steady beats and shared rhythm. No formal lesson—just buckets, curiosity, and the universal language of music.

Music has a unique way of connecting teens. It creates space to express, experiment, and communicate without needing many words. As the rhythm built, the learners listened, adjusted their timing, and found a shared groove together.

Moments like this remind us that learning doesn’t always look structured. Through rhythm and play, teens are practicing collaboration, creativity, pattern recognition, and presence—while also strengthening something just as important: connection.

Sometimes all it takes is a couple of buckets and a beat to bring people together.

Just one learner. One quiet moment in the garden with Farmer Chad ✨🌿

The morning was slow and golden. Dirt under fingernails. Sun warming shoulders. A gentle conversation drifting between seeds and stories.

Farmer Chad knelt beside them, not rushing, not lecturing — just noticing. Together they tucked roots into the earth like something precious. Water poured softly. Silence felt full.

There’s a kind of magic that happens when a child feels trusted with something living. When they’re invited into real work. When they’re seen.

At Rock Tree Sky, learning sometimes looks like this — small, steady, sacred moments in the garden. 🌱
