**Before there was writing, there were songs.**

Songwriting—storytelling carried by music—may be one of humanity’s oldest inventions. It is how we remember, how we make meaning, and how we learn to understand lives beyond our own.

Beginning Monday, young people of all ages can spend a week learning from two accomplished working songwriters, **Natalie Gelman and Sophie Holt**.

Of course, they’ll learn melody, lyrics, structure, rhyme, rhythm, and the art of saying more with fewer words. But songwriting develops much more than musical skill:

Empathy. Language. Imagination. Confidence. Careful listening. Creative courage. Editing. Collaboration.

And when songs are created in a group, students also practice communication, judgment, compromise, conflict resolution, and the ability to hear and respect another person’s point of view.

These are skills that can serve a young person for life—whether songwriting becomes a career, a lifelong passion, or simply a way to understand themselves and the world around them.

SIX is coming to Ojai!

If you missed last summer’s sold-out production of Hadestown, you missed something special.

This August, Ojai Music Academy returns to Matilija Auditorium with SIX—the electrifying, pop-concert musical that lets the six wives of Henry VIII finally tell their stories.

Featuring an extraordinary cast of young performers, live professional musicians, and dazzling choreography, this is a high-energy theatrical event that’s funny, moving, empowering, and unlike anything we’ve brought to Ojai before.
