I have drifted away from this page and "unretired" and returned to work as College Counselor at Ojai Valley School. I seldom even look at this page, and, I wonder, does anyone else? My business plan to become an independent educational consultant is on (probably permanent) hiatus; do I really need this? I could post stuff; would anyone care? If anyone "cared" maybe I would start writing stuff, like how I feel about the state of education, and various other rants. I see these posts on FB "if you really care and are reading this 'like' it or write a word, etc." I always think those appeals are lame, but I'm going to do it too. If anyone is out there, let me know. I promise to start attending to this page.

Just back from NACAC in Toronto, a great conference and a fun visit to Canada.
The new Common Application had its debut today; unfortunately it did not go well. Lots of problems with staying on the site. The CA folks say "just be patient and all will be well." Good advice for any situation.
Where have I been? What have I been up to? Questions I've been asking myself. But I am still committed to helping students with the college process, for fun and/or profit. I spent 4 days this month at College Summit at the University of REdlands. An inspiring experience working with students from Inglewood and Sylmar High Schools. They were motivated and appreciative. When I read that the "selective" colleges can't find top low-income students, I wonder where they are looking. Because I sure met a lot of them at College Summit.

My talk about colleges for students with learning disabilities went reallhy well. Thanks to Theresa Gorey for setting it up and organizing a great day of professional development.
Also attended end of the year picnic for UCSB readers; some of my colleagues read over 4,000 applications! I think I only read about 1200.
Giving a talk about college planning for students with learning disabilities in Montecito tomorrow. I'm excited to be learning about the challenges and opportunities for LD students.

An excellent discussion of why it's still important to go to college.
