Full sprint, full stretch, eyes locked on the ball. LSS alum Claire Macedo competing at the USTA National Campus shows us that dedicating yourself to your sport doesn't have to mean compromising on your education.

Getting to a court like this takes years of early mornings and travel, the kind of schedule a traditional school day doesn't leave room for. Claire trained and competed at a high level while keeping up an accredited, college-prep course load, because her school worked around the tennis.

Riley's parents have been with Laurel Springs for five years. They'd always been curious about online school and wanted the flexibility, so when COVID hit, they gave it a shot. Riley took a summer class, loved it, and joined in sixth grade. They haven't looked back.

Mark Santangelo, director of the JTCC school, has worked with Laurel Springs for 19 years. JTCC itself has been a partner for about 25.

His point is simple: tennis doesn't have a season. Players compete in tournaments all year, including overseas, and a traditional school schedule can't keep up with that.

The flexibility of an accredited online school is what lets JTCC players train at a high level, travel to tournaments, and still work with the JTCC staff and their Laurel Springs teachers. For competitive tennis players, that's the difference between choosing tennis or school and doing well at both.

One nice thing about online school: a student can settle in wherever they focus best and work on their own schedule.

Laurel Springs is an accredited, self-paced online school, so the day can be built around the student. Some do their hardest work in the morning. Some wait until evening. Either way, the work gets done.

The youngest learners don't stop learning when a lesson ends. Questions come up at the kitchen table, in the car, halfway through a walk.

Laurel Springs' online elementary program leaves room for that. Kids in K-5 learn at their own pace, in whatever place and way works for them, so any moment can turn into learning.
