Green House Gas Emmission Trends
Africa’s contribution to global has historically been minimal, but the long-term data reflects a continent in the midst of a profound environmental shift. Starting from pre-industrial baselines in the mid-19th century, emission levels for (CO₂), (CH₄), and (N₂O) remained relatively low and stable for nearly 100 years.

However, the -WWII era triggered an exponential surge, particularly in CO₂ and Methane, reflecting the continent’s late-stage industrialization and expanding agricultural footprint. By 2024, Africa’s total CO₂ emissions reached approximately 2.87 billion , highlighting a critical need for policy frameworks that balance essential with urgent climate mitigation.

Sub-Saharan Africa Holds 67% of the World’s Extreme Poor Yet Accounts for Just 15% of Its Population

-Saharan Africa has a 46% rate and hosts 570 million of the world’s 847 million extreme poor, 2% of the global total, and its trend is rising, driven by growth that is outpacing income gains.

Asia & Pacific has reduced its extreme poor to just 35 million (4.1% of world poor) at a rate of 2.2%, the lowest of any developing region, driven by ’s near-elimination of extreme poverty within its borders. #

The World Has Halved Extreme Poverty Since 1990 – But COVID Reversed 25 Years of Progress in a Single Year

In 1990, more than half the world (53.7%) lived in extreme ; by 2024 that figure had fallen to 10.4%, lifting an estimated 1.5 billion people out of destitution over three decades. Yet in 2020, -19 erased a generation of gains in a single year, and today, 847 million still survive on less than $3 a day.
The fastest decade of reduction was 2000 – 2010, when the rate fell 16%, largely driven by China’s rapid industrialisation and economic reforms lifting hundreds of millions out of poverty.

Only 8 are in food crisis. But is at 63%; at 56%; at 45%.
Out of 126 assessed, only 6% sit in crisis territory. But that small number masks a staggering emergency.

Here's what the data shows:
Critical tier (≥40% severe ):
63.1% | 55.6% | 45.4% | DR 42.5%

→ More than 2 in every 5 people cannot reliably access food.
Severe tier (30–39%) and deteriorating:
Liberia, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Namibia, all trending upward since 2016 with no structural improvement in sight. These 4 are on track to become the next emergency.
Meanwhile, 85 countries (67%) sit below 10%, including at 0.4% and the at 1.0%.
This is not a spectrum. It's a cliff edge. And without tier-based international response protocols, the Severe group will escalate into Critical within years.
The data is clear. The policy window is now.

1 in 10 People Worldwide Cannot Access - Global Food Just Hit 10%, Up from 7.8% in 2016. Wiped Out Years of Progress in a Single Year.

We're not winning the war on hunger. We're it.
Here's what the data from 126 countries reveals:
📈 The Global Trend is Worsening:
The global mean severe food insecurity rate rose from 7.8% (2016) → 10.7% peak (2022) → 10.0% (2024). 41 countries are still above 10%, including 22 above 20%.
🔴 The Worst Cases:
South Sudan — 63.1% | Malawi — 55.6% | Haiti — 45.4% | DR Congo — 42.5%
These aren't food insecure countries. These are countries in active food emergencies.
📉 The Single Worst Deterioration:
Afghanistan rose from 14.8% in 2016 to 31.0% in 2024 — a 16.2pp collapse driven by conflict and political rupture. Nigeria (+13.3pp) and Kenya (+13.1pp) are close behind.
✅ But Recovery IS Possible:
Zimbabwe fell 10.4pp (35.5% → 25.1%). Algeria dropped 8.1pp. Chad dropped 7.2pp. Political stability + agricultural investment = measurable results.
The lesson? Hunger isn't inevitable. It's political.

📍 Pakistan: +10pp gap
📍 Afghanistan: +8.3pp gap
📍 Haiti: Women at 48% insecure
📍 Kenya, Peru, Dominican Republic… the list goes on.
And this gap hasn't closed in 8 years.
The fix? 's land rights. Direct transfers to . inclusion. Not charity, structural change.
