🎙️ The first episode of season 2 of IVCC Pulse has dropped!

As part of IVCC's Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, alumni Edgar Lucero Castillo and Petra Estrada returned to campus to share their experiences with current students. Edgar discusses his journey from IVCC to a career in law, while Petra reflects on a lifetime of service in education. Together, they discuss the opportunities that shaped their paths, the importance of mentorship and representation, and the advice they have for today's students.

An exhibition sponsored by Illinois Valley Community College’s Agriculture Department on November 2 will showcase agribusiness and career opportunities in the Illinois Valley area.

The Ag Job and Internship Fair runs from 9 a.m. to noon in CTC 124-125 and is open to college students, community members, and area high school students interested in agriculture careers. 🏐 The IVCC Eagles volleyball team earned a straight-set victory over Bryant & Stratton on Friday night, winning 25-21, 25-23, 25-18.

The Eagles came out strong and maintained their momentum throughout the match, securing a close first-set win before edging out Bryant & Stratton in the second set. IVCC closed out the match with a decisive 25-18 victory in the third set to complete the sweep.

Ava Currie led the Eagles offensively with 12 kills, adding one block and two aces. Kelsey Frederick contributed seven kills, while Kaitlyn Anderson and Malayna Pitte each recorded five kills. Mya also made an impact at the net, finishing with two blocks.

IVCC's setters helped keep the offense moving throughout the match. Emma Jereb recorded 15 assists and 11 digs, while Lauren Harbison added 12 assists and six digs. Defensively, Katilyn Anderson finished with nine digs, and Callie Mertes contributed 10 digs to help the Eagles control the back row.

With contributions across the court, IVCC delivered a strong team performance to secure the three-set win over Bryant & Stratton.

The Eagles' next home game is Wednesday, October 28 at 6 PM against Sauk Valley Community College.

It’s fall and everything seems to be in motion – the leaves, the weather and all the high school seniors arriving on campus for tours. So far we’ve welcomed students from La Salle-Peru Township High School District 120, LaMoille CUSD #303, Woodland Community Unit School District 5, and Serena High School and from Starved Rock Associates for Vocational and Technical Education (SRAVTE). They’re excited to be here and we’re excited to have them!

🏃 The Illinois Valley Community College cross country women battled to a second-place finish in the Arrowhead Conference Championship Meet on Saturday.

In a race where just a handful of points separated each of the top three teams, the Eagles women came in behind Sauk Valley Community College and ahead of Highland Community College. Freshman Yoselin Carlos received all-conference recognition with a fourth-place finish (22:51).

“I'm so proud of our women, especially Yoselin,” IVCC head coach Matt Baker said. “She’s been pushing herself so hard this season, and she’s really shining amongst some of the best women runners our conference has seen in recent years. But the full squad did the work to push themselves to be in the best positions to excel on Saturday. Now we just need to take advantage of the next two weeks to prepare for the Region IV Championship.”

IVCC sophomore Addyson Miller has been improving all season long. She managed to crack the top 10 with a ninth-place finish (24:56). She was followed by teammates Avery Waca (11th place, 25:30), Riley Thrush (13th place, 25:48), Sophia Woods (14th place, 25:49), and Megan Stasiak (19th place, 27:09).

In the men’s 8KM race, freshman Kaleb Nimke also broke into the top 10, finishing 8th overall (3:19) and freshman John Ricci placed 13th (35:40).

The Eagles' final meet of the season will be the Region IV Championship Meet at Harper College in Palatine on Saturday, October 31.

Prospective welding students must attend an information session, where they will meet with Welding Program Coordinator Theresa Molln to choose courses and discuss the program before they register. New college students must have completed an IVCC application and obtained a student ID number before attending the information session.

Join us on October 20 to hear from motivational speaker, Dr. John Suarez, about his academic journey. Dr. Suarez faced early academic challenges, but through determination, mentorship, and growth, he forged a new path and earned his doctorate with a 4.0 GPA.

Students will gain a mindset shift around failure and self-doubt, practical strategies for persistence and resilience, real-world insight into navigating academic and career challenges, and motivation to take ownership of their future.

Dr. Suarez will host two sessions in the IVCC Cultural Centre at 11 AM and 6 PM. This event is sponsored by the IVCC Workforce Development Division.

🌟 How to Get Involved:
Drop off your non-perishable pantry staples, shelf stable foods, and full-size basic needs items/toiletries outside CTC-202 near the IVCC Counseling Center. We are especially in need of condiments, bottled water, cereal, seasonings, broths, cooking oil, ground coffee or K-cups, baking mixes, Pop Tarts, fruit cups, fruit snacks, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, dish soap, laundry soap, and disinfecting wipes.
