Students and staff were in attendance as James narrated the history of journalism and is continued importance today.

To vote in person in Utah, voters must present valid identification, such as a Utah driver’s license, U.S. passport, military ID, Utah concealed-carry permit or tribal IDs. Voters without one of the accepted primary forms of identification can instead provide two accepted forms of identification that, when combined, prove their name and residence.

Utah voters have several ways to cast their ballot, including by mail, early in-person voting and voting on Election Day. General Election ballots will begin being mailed to voters Oct. 13, with Oct. 27 at 5 p.m. as the deadline to request a mail ballot.

In Weber County, early voting will be available at the Weber Center from Oct. 27–30. On Election Day, voters can cast ballots at the Weber County Fairgrounds or Ogden Valley Branch Library.

Hispanic Heritage Month provides an outlet for those of Hispanic and Latino descent worldwide to reflect on where they came from and honor their ancestry. It runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 each year.

Canales was born in Laredo, Texas, along the U.S.-Mexico border. His father was born in neighboring Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, while his mother and siblings were born on the U.S. side. Canales said his family maintained strong ties to their Mexican roots.

He played basketball throughout his childhood, but it wasn’t until playing at a tournament his senior year of high school in Texas that he realized college basketball probably wasn’t in his future. From there, he set his sights on coaching.

“I started diving into coaching and studying it and, you know, trying to get reps anywhere I could,” Canales said. “Going to coaches’ clinics, going to camps.”

This led him back to his hometown, landing a job as an assistant coach at United High School in 2001. He later moved to Martin High School before joining his alma mater, the University of Texas at Arlington...

For Spanish professor Diego Batista, teaching is a way to share his culture with others.

“The more I taught Spanish, the more I realized how passionate I am still about teaching my culture and sharing that with, you know, other people, both Spanish speakers and non-Spanish speakers,” Batista said.

Batista said he enjoys seeing students discover both similarities and differences between cultures. He recalled a former student, Ben, who became a cultural ambassador in Spain.

“He was so passionate because of his experiences, like, in college and school, just learning the language and learning to love the language and culture, that he decided he wanted to just immerse himself more,” Batista said.

Inside the classroom, Batista said learning to be vulnerable is one of the first steps in learning a new language...

Forum speakers included William Olson, Uriah Kennedy, Ingrid Bettridge, Debbie Dujanovic, Kaile Akina and Tyson Reese, who offered differing perspectives on data center development.

Speakers agreed that public transparency was crucial and that individuals should remain informed and participate in lawmaking processes.

Some attendees said the panel leaned heavily in favor of data centers and left many of their concerns unaddressed.

“It is good to see the opposing side,” said Farrah Pliley, a member of the Box Elder Accountability Referendum (BEAR). “I don’t believe a word that any of the opposing side says because I live, eat, and breathe this, but it’s good to hear what’s out there.”

Alan Williams, another BEAR member who attended the forum, expressed similar concerns.

“Well, I think this panel was great except for the fact that it was biased, and I was expecting a balanced pro and con about it,” Williams said...

Kjar spent the last nine years coaching Corner Canyon High School football, holding a record of 112-10 in that time. This included six state championships and coaching multiple current NFL players.Anessa Brady, a junior at Weber State, said she’s most excited about the new coach

“100%. I think he’s making a big difference for all of us,” she said.

Additionally, Kalijah Robinson, vice president of the Weber State University Student Association, is liking what he sees five games into the season.

“I see new names. I see explosive plays. I see way more people in the stands,” Robinson said. “It’s going to be a good year.”

Brady and Robinson’s excitement about the new coaching is shared by many. Sophomore Kobe Ho**er is all in on the new playcalling, on both sides of the ball.

“The main thing I’ve noticed is it feels like the playcalling, the defensive calling, special teams, it’s a lot more aggressive.” Ho**er believes this style of play makes the game more engaging to watch and gets the fans more involved. “It gets us fans integrated, like we’re all locked in and we’re excited for these aggressive calls.”

The aggression was on full display. Weber State went for two early fourth down plays on Saturday’s game. Neither of them succeeded, but Ho**er noted that those are the kind of plays that rile up the fans.

Gillian Rupert, a cheerleader in her third year at Weber, also credited the new coaching as a reason this year has been more exciting. She said that this season feels more competitive and has given the fans a reason to be on their feet.

A big part of any collegiate football game is the student section, and at Weber State, that is no different...
