Children learn far more about relationships from what they experience than from what we tell them.

They notice whether their feelings are dismissed or taken seriously. Whether mistakes are met with shame or guidance. Whether power is used to control, or to protect. Whether love disappears when things become difficult.

And those experiences quietly shape what they come to expect from other people — and what they believe other people should expect from them.

The way we speak to them becomes part of the way they learn to speak to others.

The way we handle conflict becomes part of how they learn to repair.

The respect we show them teaches them that respect is not something reserved for adults, authority, or easy moments. It belongs in every relationship.

We will not get every interaction right. But each time we choose patience over frustration, curiosity over assumption, or repair over pride, we are teaching something far bigger than manner — we are showing them what it feels like to be treated with humanity.

And that becomes one of the first ways they learn how to pour that humanity back into the world. ❤️
