How do we make sense of the rapid technological changes reshaping our world?

This course examines the complex relationships among technology, culture, and human agency, exploring how technologies shape the ways we communicate, think, work, learn, and understand ourselves. Drawing on influential scholars, critics, journalists, and public intellectuals, we will investigate technological critiques, controversies, and cultural phenomena—from viral memes and internet subcultures to dystopian predictions and techno-utopian promises. Students will learn to make informed decisions and to participate thoughtfully in conversations about the future of technology and society.

We're excited to welcome Rachel Bryson to our full-time faculty team in the Department of English Language & Literature! After serving as one of our adjunct instructors, Rachel is joining our department in a full-time role this Fall 2026. She will be teaching ENGL 1010, ENGL 3100, and ENGL 4110.

We're grateful to have Rachel continue with our department and look forward to the expertise, enthusiasm, and dedication she brings to our students and community.
