Weber State University Energy Engineering faculty Dr. An Ho and Ian Wilkinson recently joined an expert panel at the Weber County Nuclear Energy Symposium, part of Utah’s Operation Gigawatt Initiative.

The event brought together community, industry and education leaders to discuss the future of nuclear energy and how Utah can prepare its workforce for emerging opportunities.

Dr. Brian Rague, Dean of Weber State University Engineering, Applied Science & Technology, was among the confirmed VIPs at the 7th Annual August Is for Aerospace: Securing Utah’s Presence in Space event.

Held August 11 in Layton, the event brought together leaders from government, industry, and academia to explore innovation and opportunities in Utah’s growing space industry.

Enrollment in Weber State’s Master of Science in Systems Engineering program has nearly tripled over the past four years, preparing industry professionals to support Utah’s growing manufacturing, aerospace, and defense sectors.

We’re proud to have had Dr. Rague representing Weber State University as Utah continues to strengthen its presence in the aerospace and space industries.

This summer, Weber State University's Rocket Club made history! 🚀

Thanks to a generous sponsorship from Williams International, the team traveled to Midland, Texas, to compete in the 2026 International Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) alongside more than 150 universities from around the world.

Representing WSU for the first time, the club launched its inaugural 9-foot rocket after months of designing, building, and testing. What an incredible milestone!

We were honored to welcome Brigadier General G. Hall Sebren Jr. from Hill Air Force Base for a tour of our Engineering, Applied Science and Technology facilities, joined by Weber State University President Leslie Durham.

The visit included a student hybrid rocket nozzle demonstration, innovative robotics research, and hands-on labs featuring CNC machining, welding, automation, and advanced materials. It also highlighted the opportunities for collaboration between Weber State and Hill Air Force Base to support research, workforce development, and projects that strengthen our nation's defense. 🚀🔧

The Fast Track program is built for adult learners balancing daytime work while training for careers in Automotive Service Technology. Students gain hands-on experience diagnosing, servicing, and repairing modern passenger vehicles and light trucks, preparing for immediate opportunities in professional repair facilities.

Graduates earn:
• Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair Certificate of Proficiency
• Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Maintenance Certificate of Proficiency

This accelerated program is aligned with ASE industry standards, helping students prepare for ASE certification exams. Prior automotive experience is recommended due to the fast-paced curriculum.
