Enjoying Pisco Cocktails in Lima, Peru 04/17/2012

No Peruvian cocktail is more classic than the pisco sour. Invented, paradoxically, by an expat Mormon from Utah named Victor Morris, the recipe was canonized in the 1930s at the Hotel Maury in Lima.

Enjoying Pisco Cocktails in Lima, Peru Inventive mixologists in Lima are fueling a pisco renaissance. Here are some of their colorful creations.

Here's some information on financial aid and study aborad programs. If a student takes 6 standard credits during the semester and pays with Pell Grant or Loans (subsidized or unsubsidized), they may use the residual monies or left over to pay for any existing charges on their account -- including study abroad charges.

Reminder: There's a meeting tonight (Monday, Dec. 12) at 5 PM in room 106 of the Kimball Art Building to talk briefly about the Peru trip this summer. The topics I'd like to cover include: flights, passports, syllabi, readings, and general preparation for the trip. If you are not sure if you can go, you are still welcome to attend this meeting.

Good news! I received this message yesterday from Continuing Education. "After reviewing your Study Abroad Program proposal for the 2011-2012 trip year, we are happy to inform you that your trip not only met the criteria but has been deemed eligible to receive a scholarship. The amount should be determined soon, but may be up to $500. It will be awarded to those who are financial aid eligible and on a first come first serve basis."

I'll send more details as soon as I have them. I do know that you'll need to fill out a FAFSA form. Do this if you haven't done so already.

Also, thinking of the calendar, if you are planning to go on this trip and you don't have a passport, or your passport is expired, go ahead and get one now. Reservations for the Inka Trail go quickly and I'll need your passport number early next semester (end of January) to set up our reservations.

Continuing Education is finally ready to start accepting payments for the Peru trip. I've set up a suggested payment schedule (below). It is flexible, but it's probably easier to pay installments rather than come up with nearly all of the money in April. You can pay by phone or in person at the Continuing Education Office. The phone number for CE is 801 626-6600. The office is located on the south side of campus in the new building near Promontory Tower.

October 31: $200
November 28: $250
December 26: $500
January 30: $500
February 27: $500
March 26: $500
April 30: $500
May 14: $250

TOTAL $3200
