Plenty of snow on the route to Ben Lomond Peak still. It’s a fun time to practice using crampons and an ice ax (if you are new to these, take someone who can teach you how to use them) ❄️

We have another opportunity in the Moab 240 race now. I will be coordinating the “sweeping” from our Hamburger Rock aid station until the finish. This means we stay with the last runner and help and encourage them while picking up trail markers. I am in most need of help for this from October 14 evening until October 16 at 11pm. It is a great experience to help these runners who really may be struggling at this point. We need a couple people who like to walk and hike to do the sweeping and we will also need a driver to help shuttle the sweepers back and forth as needed. Let me know if you are interested. We will have some nice running sunglasses, a t-shirt, and a Moab 240 glass for anyone volunteering to do this and/or the Hamburger Rock Aid Station. Message me you email, phone number, and availability if you would like to do this.

Anyone want to join us to volunteer at a Moab 240 Mile Endurance Run aid station on October 12-13? It’s at the Hamburger Rock camp ground in Moab. I am attaching pictures from last year. It is a beautiful area. I will be the captain at this aid station and will need to have at least 5 helpers. You don’t need any experience. Our aid station is at about mile 85 of the race and has bathrooms and easy access from the street. It’s going to be lots of fun and a great way to help others and also learn about ultrarunning first hand. Message Melissa Schmidt with your email if you are interested and I will send you more information.

This is a great time for snowshoeing on the Cutler Flats trail in North Fork (Liberty Utah). We have not had a lot of snow this year, but we found a bit today and I finally got to actually put on my very own pair of snowshoes and use them for the first time. They are MSR EVO Ascent. They were lightweight and very comfortable. I have tried 3 other pair of snowshoes in the past, but these are the ones I’m keeping. I didn’t trip over my feet or slip or fall even once; they are awesome! The company and the mountain and the moose were awesome too ❄️❤️

Antelope Island is Heavenly right now. On a cool crisp morning the sun comes up and the snow is all around but the trails are easy to jog and hike on. This day, there was no ice. The trails are mostly dirt now and the places with a bit of snow just had a little so we did not need shoe spikes, just regular trail shoes for traction. This picture is from Elephant Head and we explored trails on this side of the island. I think Frary Peak still has a lot of deep snow, so you would need gear if you go that route.
There has been a lot of discussion about various types of “fasting” for health. In this blog post, I am sharing my experience with a water only fast. This is not for everyone, but for me, it was worth the experiment. If you are thinking of a fast for your health, I encourage you to seek out a holistic doctor who is experienced in this regimen and consult with him/her before deciding if this is right for you. Let me know what you are doing for your health. I’d love to hear your stories too 💕💦
My Experience with Water Fasting for Health & Improved Ultra Running - energypluslife Fasting has been a part of life for thousands of years. We learn in the Bible of Jesus fasting 40 days in the wilderness to prepare for what his father had called him to do (Matthew 4:1-17, Mark 1:12-13, Luke 4:1-14). In Exodus 34:28, Moses fasted 40 days on Mount Sinai in preparation for obtaining....

This is a great season to get to FraryPeak on Antelope Island. It’s about 8 miles total and 2100 elevation gain for this hike. ...completely stunning views, and the buffalo are pretty interesting too 🍂🍂
