🎉 Welcome to the WEA Board, Leslie & Mat!

We’re excited to welcome two new members to the WEA Board! Please join me in welcoming Leslie Wentz, our new Elementary Representative, and Mat Brown, our new Jr. High Representative. 👏

They jumped right into their new roles tonight by joining me at the Weber School Board meeting. I’m excited to have them on the team and look forward to the perspective, energy, and advocacy they’ll bring to WEA and our members!

Jennifer Graviet, a longtime UEA member and former Weber Education Association president, is one of 48 educators nationwide receiving the 2027 Travelers Awards for Teaching Excellence.

Congratulations! We’re proud to celebrate your classroom work and your leadership in our union.

Fun fact: Ms. Graviet taught 7th-grade English to UEA's Director of Communication and Public Relations!

Behind the scenes, the work of your union is happening every day. 💙

Today, your WEA President, Vice President, and UEA Board Member spent three hours at the Council of Local Presidents meeting—connecting with local leaders, sharing ideas, discussing the issues impacting educators, and working together to strengthen our collective voice.

You may not always see this work, but it’s happening—and it matters.

We had a lovely visit at Sand Ridge on Wednesday. We always love it when our building leaders make treats! Of course our very own Jenny Graviet went above and beyond with the cute little signs!

When we are at your school be sure to come chat with us! Tell us what is going well and what you have questions and concerns about. This is how we get the feedback to take back to the Superintendent at our monthly meetings.

I hope everyone has had a great start to the new school year. Whether you are returning to WEA or are joining us for the first time, we are excited to have you as part of the Weber Education Association!

One of the things that makes our union strong is WEA’s members. We are educators from across the district who come together to support one another, strengthen our profession, and advocate for great public schools.

I would like to take a moment to introduce you to your WEA Board of Directors. These educators volunteer their time to represent you, help guide our association, and try to ensure the voices of our members are heard.

President: Sarah Cox (Speech Language Pathologist, Riverdale Elementary)

Vice President – Secondary: Alyse Hartley (Social Studies Teacher, Mountain View Jr. High)

Vice President – Elementary: Teresa Young (Speech Language Pathologist, Silver Ridge)

Secretary-Treasurer: Linda Gallego (ESL Teacher, South Ogden Jr. and T.H. Bell Jr. High)

At-Large Representative: Ginger Huerta (Secondary West Sped Coordinator)

At-Large Minority Representative: Vacant

Junior High Representative: Vacant

Elementary Representative 1: Julia Talbert (5th Grade Teacher, Roy Elementary)

UEA Board of Directors Representative: Jana Duersch (Transition Special Education Teacher, Ogden School District)

We are fortunate to have educators from different schools, grade levels, and areas of the district serving on our board. This helps us make sure that WEA represents the diverse needs and experiences of our membership.

We Have Open Positions!
We also have several opportunities for WEA members who would like to become more involved. You do not have to be an expert in union work to serve on the board. We are looking for members who care about their colleagues, public education, and making WEA stronger.

If you are interested in getting more involved, we currently have the following board positions open:

Elementary Rep

Serving on the WEA Board is a great way to learn more about our association, have a voice in the direction of WEA, connect with educators across the district, and help advocate for our members and students.

If you have ever thought, “Someone should do something about that,” maybe this is your opportunity to be that someone! Just email me back and let me know which position you are interested in!

You can also get involved without serving on the board. Talk to your Association Building Leader, attend a WEA meeting, participate in an activity, or simply reach out to me with an idea or concern. Our union is strongest when our members are involved.

I am looking forward to another great year with WEA. Thank you for being a part of the collective voice and for everything you do for the students and educators of Weber School District.
