Happy summer everyone!!!!! I hope you all have big and exciting plans for your summer!!!! I appreciate you taking a moment from your summer to read this Board Brief!!! You know I love meetings, and this one was especially good!!!!

While I am going to summarize this meeting for you, I’m going to be a bit briefer in my descriptions than I normally am!!!! I go to these meetings for you so you don’t have to, but this one was just so valuable and informative, that I think I will let the presenters do the talking for me!!!! I encourage you to take some time this summer to watch this board meeting, especially if you’ve had any questions regarding our benefits, the contract, salaries, or the district’s budget!!! This meeting was incredibly informative and all of my questions were answered!!! I think it would do the same for you!!!!

If you are interested in watching the whole board meeting, you can do so by clicking this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7KlyFHVz7Q

I’ve also broken it down to the segments that I found the most interesting, informative, and important!!!!

There were three main things discussed in this meeting!!!! First, our wonderful HR team, Nicole Meibos and Lauri Adams, went over in great detail both the benefits for next year and our contract and salaries. I appreciated the detail in which they described how our benefits will change, how these decisions are made, etc. They can describe it better than I ever could!!! If you would like to listen to their presentation on our benefits, click this link and watch from minute 20:39 to 39:42.

After discussing benefits, they also went into detail about our contract and salary schedules, what those will look like, and how those decisions were made. I’ve heard from a lot of educators and I know there have been a lot of questions, but they did a great job clearing up any concerns I had! If you are interested in watching them discuss this, click this link and watch from minute 39:55 to 50:16 and minute 52:00 to 1:10.25.

The last part of this meeting that I found so helpful was the budget hearing! Our Business Administrator, Brock Mitchell, did an in-depth presentation on our district’s budget. He made it clear and easy to understand, and I really appreciated it!!! This is a long segment, but I really encourage everyone to watch it when they get a chance!!! To watch, click this link and watch from minute 1:10.48 to 2:22.58.

This was a really great meeting and I really got a lot out of it!!!! I really encourage you to watch it yourself if you have a minute!!!!! Thanks everyone!!!! Unfortunately there’s no meeting in July, so you’ll have to wait until August to hear from me again!!!! Have a great summer!!!!!

I forgot to take a picture of everyone at the school board meeting tonight, but here is a nice sunset picture I took on my way home from the meeting at 9:00pm.

Stay tuned for the Board Brief with Alyse!! But just know that if you have questions about the budget or negotiations, this is a meeting you should watch. I’ll put the link in the comments.

Thank you to everyone that showed up or watched online. It helps so much when people are informed!

This week the WEA Board came together to plan for the upcoming school year, and I left feeling grateful for the people doing this work beside me.

We spent time talking through goals, challenges, communication, member support, and how we can continue building a stronger association for educators. There’s a lot ahead of us, but there was also a lot of thoughtful discussion, problem solving, and commitment around the table.

Being on the board means giving up personal time because we believe our educators, students, and schools are worth it. The work isn’t always easy, but it matters.

Thank you to every board member who showed up ready to collaborate, ask hard questions, and help shape the direction of WEA for the year ahead.

This year took a lot out of public educators. 🍎
That is why UEA’s Summer Learning Institute shares practical learning around what many of us are carrying right now: burnout, classroom behavior, resiliency, instructional support and tools for the year ahead. Register by May 30 (Link in comments)
The first 200 participants who complete the required registration steps and attend SLI will receive useful swag, including a $50 Minky Couture gift card. (thanks Minky!)
Hotel accommodations may be available for qualifying members traveling from outside the area, but registration is needed as soon as possible.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the contract ratification vote. Your engagement in this process is an important part of ensuring that member voices are heard and represented.

The proposed agreement for the 2026-2027 school year was ratified with a vote of:

74% YES
26% NO

According to our Weber Education Association bylaws, a proposed agreement is ratified by a majority vote of participating members. Because the agreement received majority support, the contract has officially been ratified. It will now move on to the WSD School Board to ratify at their next meeting on June 10th.

Thank you again for taking the time to review the information, attend the presentation, ask questions, and vote.

Your involvement strengthens our union and helps ensure we continue moving forward together.

Remember, YOU are the Union! The Weber Education Association is not a building, office, or few leaders- it is all of us. Your voice and participation are what make us strong.

❤️
