We’ve just been having so much fun the past few weeks in music that I’ve completely forgotten to post an update…🤦♀️🙃
So here goes…
4th and 5th grade have been taking a look at the five main musical elements. Melody, Harmony, Rhythm, Dynamics, and Timbre. They’ve been learning about what each of them is and also how that specific element of music influences the emotional impact a song has on someone. I’ve really enjoyed getting to hear their thoughtful answers to some of the deeper, more challenging music questions I’ve been asking. 🥰
3rd Grade has added 16th notes to their repertoire as well as added canon/round to their music vocabulary. They’ve really enjoyed the challenge of having to say the same thing as another group but start at a completely different time than them. 3rd grade has also started to talk about how musical elements like lyrics, rhythm, tempo, dynamics and how you use them, influences the type of emotion a song may be trying to portray. They’ve done a great job of using their brains to think about music in a different way than they normally do. 🧠👏🏼
K-2 has also been having a lot of fun from instruments to charades to using their bodies to form different letters, and of course the occasional dance party! 🪩 More importantly though, they have started talking about how different types of music make us feel different emotions. Each time they come to class we listen to music and then identify what emotion it made us feel. We’ve been building their emotional vocabulary by introducing new emotions each class as well. They’ve done a great job of listening and have even started to talk about why the music makes them feel that way. 🙌🏻
Hope you enjoyed this “little” update and that you have a very musical weekend!! 🎶💙
