Why UTPB? For Sophia Traslosheros,
"Iโ€™m a West Texas girl and I always knew I wanted to stay somewhere connected to where I come from.
The land, the oilfield, the people, and the hard work behind it all is something I grew up around and respect deeply. A big reason I chose energy land management is because of my dad. Growing up I watched him work his way up in the oilfield and build a life through hard work and sacrifice. What really stood out to me about UTPB was the Energy Land Management program and the opportunities that come with it. Through the APPL program I get to experience things outside the classroom and actually learn from real industry professionals. One of my favorite experiences so far was getting to go on a rig tour with EOG Resources. At the end of the day UTPB feels connected to my goals, my background, and the future I want for myself. Choosing UTPB wasnโ€™t just about choosing a college. It was about choosing a place where I can grow, make connections in the industry, and stay connected to the part of Texas that means the most to me."

At 67 years old, Larry Wallum is proving that it's never too late to chase a dream. ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿงก

For years, earning a college degree sat at the top of his bucket list. While navigating a disability and working as a substitute teacher, he stayed committed to that goal, one class at a time.

This spring, Larry turned that dream into reality by graduating from UTPB. ๐Ÿคฉ

For Larry, the journey was about more than earning a degree. It was about challenging himself, continuing to learn, and setting an example for his grandchildren.

While graduation is a major accomplishment, Larry sees it as a new beginning. He plans to continue learning, exploring new opportunities, and using his education to make a difference in the lives of others as a teacher.๐ŸŽ
