Supporting our students goes beyond academics… Sometimes it’s simply about showing up and sharing in the experiences that help them grow. 🤍🥹

Hiring an advocate doesn’t mean you’re preparing for battle…Actually, I’d argue the opposite.

The goal is to get the right people talking, asking better questions and working toward what your child actually needs.

I can advocate firmly AND collaborate with your child’s team.
Those things were never opposites. 🤍

Your child does not have to earn their place in the room. 💙💛

Not in the classroom.
Not with their peers.
Not in their community.

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, and while awareness is important, I want more than awareness for our kids.

I want high expectations.
I want real opportunities.
I want support without assumptions.
I want inclusion that goes beyond simply being invited into the room.

This month we celebrate the incredible individuals with Down syndrome who continue to show us exactly why expectations, access and belonging matter. 💙💛

And we keep advocating for all three.

A nearly 48% increase in special education complaints is a number worth paying attention to…

I recently spoke with Spectrum Bay News 9 about what we’re seeing firsthand. More families are reaching the point of filing state complaints and due process, but that doesn’t mean the story is as simple as schools failing students.

More students are qualifying for IEPs. Schools are navigating staffing and funding challenges. And families are trying to make sense of a system that can feel incredibly complicated.

Sometimes advocacy isn’t about creating conflict. It’s about understanding the process, knowing your child’s rights and figuring out the best path forward.

IEP meetings can feel overwhelming, especially when the process starts becoming more complicated than you ever expected.

Having someone in your corner who understands the process, knows what to look for, and can help you advocate for what your child needs can make a HUGE difference.

“I feel like I should already know this.”

I hear some version of this from parents all the time. And the truth is, you’re navigating a system that comes with its own language, processes, paperwork and rules. You were never supposed to magically know how all of it works.

Ask the question. Ask it again if the answer doesn’t make sense. Ask for clarification. Ask for it in writing. Ask them to explain what that acronym means. Ask why something is being recommended for your child.

You don’t have to walk into every meeting knowing everything; you just have to keep asking until you understand. 🤍
